Jarred,

Will RED be offering Tactical Top Plates for Weapon/Raven bodies?

Would love to see a version for the body only like the Epic, as well as one that would extend over the Weapon brain and Redvolt Expander. Could also be two separate plates for simplicity and flexibility.

While there are 1/4 20 taps on the body itself, there aren't enough and I'd rather attach AKS to a plate that takes the wear and tear rather than the body. Would be great to keep the Pogo connections for the Handle and monitors if possible.

WC has responded first with a top plate along these lines, just like they did when the Epic was released. I like the fact that it allows you to rotate the top handle toward the front of the camera and that they kept the stop/start button functionality.

That said, I would much rather buy a RED plate than a third party. We're gonna miss our current Tactical Top Plates when our Weapons arrive. They've been an absolute necessity.

Let us know ok?

Thanks!
Mark

And we need to hear about the more bits you ordered promised for mid November :)

I want to be able to use my red ribs...

I ordered one from WC, and they are suppose to ship mid-end of Dec. But would be nice to see another option especially from RED.

I'd like to use our cage plates as well, but I'm assuming they won't fit the new top plate/body, but it would be great if they did. I hate having to try to sell leftover stuff for next to nothing and then having to buy new again. We'll have enough things to sell from our Dragons as it is ;)

Radio Silence...

Would sure like to know if RED will be offering Tactical Top Plate options. I'd rather not buy 3rd party solutions since they don't always integrate with RED's offerings—like the QR platform/Assault plate/Tactical Cage, etc...

Can we at least get a nod that this is in the works, and some idea of when? Noting some of the feedback about the top of the Weapon having shallow threads for AKS is worrisome. Not every AC is careful when they start grabbing bolts and installing AKS.

One IS in the works Mark...

I'll nod as well if that helps. I also think Jarred nodded a while back and that is the nod you are looking for.

I don't have any animated gestures for knowing when, but there is one in the works. There's a fair amount of Weapons out in the wild now. I imagine we'll hear something really soon.

Thanks Phil,

Let's all nod together and let the magic happen ;)

I've only had my Weapon for 36 hours and I already badly miss having a top plate. The handle is too close to the body to use the ET Vmount plate and there just aren't enough 1/4-20 options on the top of it. I'd love to see the different options that are coming out but I'll honestly just buy the first one to market!

Off topic but curious...did you upgrade to CF Weapon from Dragon X?

Trying to find out if any of these upgrades are happening yet.

Funny, wasn't the WC VS RED fight due to the top plate? WC are doing some amaizing stuff. I would love to see peace between them, but I don't know how violent was the fight and if it's even possible.

was over a V-lock, and "rib cage" design. it WOULD be nice if the two companies could get over their issues. Honestly WC is one of my favorite 3rd party companies..the people who work there are super friendly. perhaps they should watch how close they make their designs, but having another option for rigging components shouldn't get red too riled up.. perhaps they could communicate more and work it out

This is more for 8k weapon with full feature rigs, and I doubt a lot of feature film people have had much experience on 8k sensors - but I've found on non-feature film systems I want the sensors to float and not have torque through the sensor cage as the camera is moved. I wounder what RED's viewpoint is on this? For my config my base part of the camera is about 20 pounds on 19mm bottom rails, and my top rails are carrying another 15 pounds, so I don't want someone (or a motion control system moving quickly) while moving the camera producing torque through the sensor area. So I'm going to probably get four 19mm to 19mm rail connectors(at right angles to create a box) and have the entire top 19mm rail system configured so the camera is only floating on the bottom rails.

They are super nice people and they make good stuff. But yeah, copyright infringement is not ok.

Personally, I'd rather buy Red camera AKS. That's why I'm lobbying to see a solution from RED.

I just found it amusing that when I tried to type "w-o-o-d-e-n c-a-m-e-r-a" in the forum, it would convert it to "x".

As if everyone doesn't know who we are talking about when we have to type WC ;)
