  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

WEAPON / DJI RONIN

Still waiting for a possebility.
Jarred posted a ET plate on FB. Maybe there is a possebility to get the mövi plate on it.
 
Just want to have some news about the best way to power Weapon on a Ronin-M. Are lipo batteries still the best way to give power to the camera?

And you confirm me that the Weapon can't be powered by the Ronin-M? I also don't get the difference between the Jetpack and the Base Expender for this kind of shoot.

Either of the Ronins was never designed to do that. This is from practical standpoint - you will need much larger capacity batteries to get any useable runtime and the cable would need to be thicker - which would have negative impact on the freedom of motion of the camera base, making the Ronin difficult to properly balance and hindering the actual operation of the gimbal. You could eliminate the problems related to thicker cables by the use of slip-rings - but these bring their own set of issues. DJI seriously tested the option of using slip-rings and let's just say that there is a reason why they have chosen not to use them. Gimbal can tolerate and recover com micro loses in connection (but not without impacting the stabilization of the shot) - but your RED would not be so happy...

Thus when using on the Ronin-M (as seen at NAB). You need to add weight UNDER the gimbal cradle to lower the CG in order to balance. At Nab they had the big LiPo battery under the cradle.

In fact you have similar problems with alot of other cameras on the Ronin-M also due to the very short tilt arms on the R-M. If you using a Canon 1DC with a quality glass you even run out of tilt arm adjutment. C300 also.

The other solution also discussed on the forum earlier is to mount the camera upside down. which can be challenging depending on your top plate hole configuration. Also The FAN and the circulation of air works better in upright mode as it was designed to sit.

That's why my company that some of you already know for our many Ronin accessories has released the Ronin-M Tilt arm extension.

This fixes all your top heavy camera issues. Basically a "must have" for any Red User.

Simply screws on and off in seconds.

bottom is also threaded so you can screw in your factory "stoppers" (prevents the cradle from dropping when loose)

Doesnt DJI Sell these for 18$?
 
Yes but ours is over twice as long as the DJI ones.

Since we are talking about a weapon on a Ronin-M it is likely you will need more than the 30mm drop down that the DJI part give you.

So if you want to cover your bases and make sure you wont run out of adjustment....
