  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Weapon 8k Queue

Stacey, you're the bellwether of the vV queue, so this is exciting news for the rest of us.

Stacey, Congratulations! It is really exciting to see 8K VV for our Queue begin!
I would not have thought this would happen this year anymore, more like March next year, but that is great news!

Stacey were you on Helium before VV?
And how long did the Upgrade take?
Do you know if you got Notified before Joe Kleber because you have forged, or is it simply as it was said Order Timestamp / SO Order Number?

Joe, have you been Notified / Allocated yet too ?

Hi Alex

No. I have not been notified. Like many other VV depositors, I thought the order would follow Stacey's list but that's not how it works. All of the VV depositors with FORGED WEAPONs will go first and then VV depositors with WOVEN WEAPONs will follow. Björn should be next.

I hope that isn't true, on forged getting VV first. This whole VV has been a disaster from my production viewpoint, I still don't know the year I'm going to get this camera and I bought two camera's just for shooting VV. I can't see a business reason for what I do, to upgrade a RED camera again.

It's very much true.

It has been a while for me on this thread as well. So perhaps this concern has already been addressed, apologies as I have been enjoying 6k dragon woven goodness and haven't looked away from my evf much.

I am confused, can someone clear this up for me...

I interpreted these statements to mean that time stamp was the determining factor in upgrading from Weapon to 8k VV (and therefore Helium too). That the "initial batch" meant the people who put down 10k deposits at NAB.

3) Forged orders take priority for the 8K sensor after 8K ordering opens up again once the initial first batch of 8K orders has been notified.

If you don't already know, I wouldn't be waiting by the chimney. We aren't going down the list cherry picking favorites for the 8k, but we are supporting one big show like we always do when we have a new camera.

I get that the VV is a waiting game demanding extreme patience... I am thankful for the opportunity to sample the Helium sensor while waiting for VV... I am not in the boat of people who feel like they are missing out on work because they don't have the latest sensor.... but I am wondering how I misconstrued the above statements. Perhaps my want for 8k has clouded my thought process so much that logic now evades even the deepest recesses of my mind.

FYI. There was a series of posts on this subject a couple months ago (maybe longer). Amongst those who pre-paid for VV, Forged goes first in order of time stamp, then Woven in order of time stamp. Some of the early statements on the subject were open to misinterpretation, but were clarified long ago.

Cheers - #19

Good to see them rolling out!
And I think that picture also solves a question: "Do Forged NAB get priority over Woven NAB"?
Apparently not as Ivan's VV is a Woven one.
Then again: nothing with RED is "Apparently" :-)

There is probably a few early adopters who are also in the NAB queue where woven or forged does not apply. It's exciting to see some VV getting out there.

I'm one of those early adopters with 2 WPNs. My Forged has intermediate Helium now; my woven hasn't been allocated yet (for Helium).
There's guys behind my timestamp with Helium already, so... nothing makes sense to me anymore....

Its possible they want to get at least one Helium in everyone's hands first. I don't really know. Have you done tests of Helium vs. Dragon? (With the new FW) I had been waiting on the new FW before doing a lot of testing on Helium, but no longer have Helium.

I posted this in another thread, but will post here as well in case you have not seen it. Zeiss Otus 85mm @ f/2.8, ISO 400, ungraded (white balance only), IPP2 709/1886 output. 5:1 compression. I used a simple/crude app to scale to 720p. (MSPaint) Right mouse clip to open in a new window since the forum scales even smaller.

The depth of field is shallow at f/2.8. Look at left eye/shoulder vs. right. Love how creamy the background is. Lights were ARRI SC30-C (key), L5-C (fill), Fiilex P360 (hair) and L7-C (backlight used on DXL) The frame is from one, of two, interview(s) we shot at Light Iron last week. It is from a doc in process. We will be posting BTS and frame grabs on our Facebook page starting in the new year.

As of today, 532 days and counting since orders opened up for the vV sensor.

Every time I get a new Red camera, I go to Kerry Park and take a pic of the Seattle skyline. I started this tradition with the RED ONE.

Here is a single frame R3D from the VV. Was hoping for a little more blue sky today, but no such luck. Will try again tomorrow. 8K HD, ISO 400, Otus 85mm @ f/5.6. I was shooting timelapse and had frame averaging enabled, which is why frame rate says 47.952 vs 23.976. https://www.dropbox.com/s/305e6t2ioyfmh6b/KerryPark_R3D.zip?dl=0

Here is a second from that did not use frame averaging nor timelapse. Was a little bit later. This one is f/8. https://www.dropbox.com/s/4st7hs2qv6zeyfb/KerryPark_02_R3D.zip?dl=0

Ungraded. I used some random object in frame to white balance. Could not get my dad to run down to the Space Needle and hold test chart for me. Actually, we were up in the Space Needle twenty minutes earlier.

Tomorrow I will go back and shoot on the Zeiss APO 135mm. Expecting some blue skies.

Must of blinked at just the right time .. I read that as "take a pic of Katy Perry" :-)

Today ... my Weapon made it back to me with the Helium 8k upgrade!!

Katika (the fluffy thing on top) says "Yayy!!" :-)
