  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Weapon 8k Queue

Yeah Bryan! You lucky dog.

8k is a lot of lines to read out ...and if all else is equal it will be slower.

I think I was told that the read/reset pixel timing on Helium is actually faster than Dragon... But there are also quite a few more lines of pixels to read out and that overtakes the speed improvement. So on full 8K frames the rolling shutter skew is going to be a bit more prevalent than on 6K Dragon. We can always use the Motion Mount or choose a smaller frame size to compensate, but those both come with other compromises. I've also noticed we see the skew a lot more on VV Dragon because once again a lot more pixels to read out and they still read out at the same speed as on 6K Dragon.

I was Allocated 2 weeks ago, but work and the color science issues on the Helium have prevented me from sending in.. I will make the jump next week though...!

I have been away from this thread for a few months but I am curious how many of the Panavision 8K VV cameras have been finished. I know that Panavision wants at least 100 camera bodies. And if, for discussion purposes Red was to create a VV sized Helium chip would Panavision want to transition their cameras to that sensor ?

AFAIK, none of what you are asking is public information. IIRC, Panavision/LightIRON plans to roll out the MillenniumDXL program in early 2017 - but how many units will be ready for rental on day one... Due to the lead time required to develop the color science/imaging pipeline proposed by LightIRON for the MillenniumDXL, one would assume they are deeply committed to the Dragon sensor tech. That said, there's certainly a possibility that RED and PV changed course months ago without choosing to make that public...

Cheers - #19

Helium sized as 8k dragon is somthing like 12k That would demand rather high compression and or low framrates. And it would simply be a stupid amount of pixels so i think if there was an option most would probably opt for 8k at thst sensorsize.

Forged Helium #0140 is on its way home to Grand Cayman, YAY! :-)

Picked this up today in Irvine. Christmas came early.

Like the new PL mount, the VV Canon mount is also magnesium with captive screws.

Boom, Congrats!

Love to hear what you think of it especially in comparison to helium.
In theory I really want the VV over the helium but real world side by side stuff would be great to see.

So the VVs started to deploy... promising...
Congrats Stacy and "wear" it with pride! :-))
Great way to end the year!
