  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Weapon 8k Queue

Swimming (and filming) with orcas in the fjords I got a message to send my Forged for its intermediate Helium-surgery :-)

Been filming the orcas underwater on Weapon Helium and I'm impressed: https://www.facebook.com/michael.maes/posts/10154633361818446
This is a heavily compressed MP4 out of RCXP, RWG/Log3G10 with a LUT applied (thanks Graeme!).
Else nothing much I did. Can't wait to see it on the big screen at the office and push it through Resolve.

Phil, was there a forum update? When I got to edit the original post, instead of WYSIWYG, I get a bunch of format code. Royal pain. I first noticed it when I would insert a link as it now shows the URL code.

Weird. I'm not seeing that. Hmmm. Two weird forum things today. Jason-won you are our only hope!

I think we are about 5 days into WYSIWYG.

I thought it was an attempt to stop me using garish colours in almost all my posts... ;-)

Attached is a screen shot of what I see now instead of the nice table. Wish I could get the old view back. In some ways seeing the text code is easier to edit. No strange color or font being inserted. Anyway, first post updated.

I have not included Phil, Dino or Chris since they have not actually posted / requested to be in the list. Basically, I don't want to include without their consent.

Hey Stacey,
Feel free to put me on the list.

The VV order was SO-0144648 on 4-23-15. I'm not sure of the time, it isn't showing on my red account.

Thanks man!

Not in line for VV, just a normal Forged dragon to helium upgrade. Just wanted to offer the encouragement of the delightfully short upgrade time! Wish I were in that VV line though...
They had mine for 8 days. They received on a Friday and shipped it back on a Tuesday.

I am getting great results from my Helium. I use RWG and Log3G10 with my own gamut mapping code, so no out of gamut clipping for me. While LUTs are great for viewing, they have limited precision and so I prefer to use full color transforms for the highest quality images.

I am not sure if this Helium video was posted on RU, but it has some nice images in it. I had no involvement in it. I just noticed it after I watched the EPIC-W low light video while YouTube surfing.

I'm definitely curious to play more with RWG and Log3G10. Traveling this next week for a shoot so won't be able to really dive into the images until I get back. Might be time for a new laptop...

Great to see something happening on this list. It was so long ago I can't remember when I put the money down on the full frame chip? While it seems the wait will continue at least the Heluim has started to roll out. Still disappointed that my Weapon which will likely be replaced by 2020 will only see the big chip sometime in 2017.

By default, RWG will look de-saturated. Much like looking at any log format lacks contrast. In one of the FXPHD courses, Poynton talks about this very subject. If I can remember which class, I will post the details. It is well worth watching, but heavy in geek speak. :) You can use some type of transform. A 3D LUT is one method, which is very popular, but is not the highest quality approach because it has a limited number of points / precision. Don't take this comment as 3D LUTs are bad, because they are not. It is just one of many approaches.
