  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Weapon 6k & 8K anamorphic?

As many know I am very big into the anamorphic scene but in doing research for the Weapon on their anamorphic capbilities I do not see anywhere it will do anamorphic.

Can anyone tell me is there going to be a 6K and or 8K ability to shoot ananmorphic and see it in desqueesed mode?

For thise who do not know me I am the Creator of the Mirrorscope lenses.

I wrote this in the other 4:3 thread too, but for us s35mm PL lens users, I'd love to see some simple 4:3 and ANA modes in the menus of the 8K VV Weapon: 4:3 - 24mm x 18mm (4800x3600) and 1.22:1 - 22mm x 18mm (4400x3600).
I think that'd be awesome!

well since cameras seem to moving to larger sensors, i think that would make alot of sense:) - now wheres my 135mm ??:)
 
4:3 no more special even Arri left 4:3 and going by the 6:5 ;)

6:5? What the hell? I thought you needed 4:3 for anamorphic?
The 4:3 aspect ratio was originally left over from the film days, and now has been put to good use by VFX-heavy feature films. Anamorphic lenses don't actually need the full width of the 4:3 image; they squeeze the 2.39:1 image by a factor of 2, and the resulting area used on the sensor has a 1.195:1 aspect ratio, which is roughly 1.2:1, which is 6:5. When shooting with anamorphic lenses in 4:3 sensor mode, you always have to crop the extra area to the left and right of the image in post, an extra processing step that is avoided by shooting in 6:5.

In the ALEXA XT cameras with SUP 11 we have introduced this mode, however, there it was still called '4:3 Cropped', but that is the same thing as the ALEXA SXT/SXR 6:5 sensor mode.
 
I find 4:3 a little bit annoying when shooting anamorphic, because as mentioned, you have to crop the sides in post.
6:5 makes alot of sense in that regard - I just find the numbers "6:5" highly abstract:)
 
6:5 for the win, Red should add the feature, pretty please?... But keep 4/3 for the 4/3 lovers too, just more choice is all, though doing output blanking or something along those lines is easy enough in all the apps to figure out..

RED's proper 2X anamorphic mode has been 6:5 for some time:

sweet! once i have some lenses ill poke around with it more! i been looking at some over on FJS and Westcoastcine but not sure which 2x to get...
