  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

We had no idea...

Back in January of 2007, I told one of my clients that I had put down a deposit on a 4K camera. He thought I was nuts. "4K? That's impossible. That rich guy is wasting his money trying to make a 4K camera. If anybody could could do that, don't you think it would be Sony?" So very glad I ignored his advice to get my deposit back.

I love it when a plan comes together.

The primary reason we have given priority to the early adopters is because they believed in us, inspired us actually, when we really had no idea what we were doing... but bet that we would figure it out one way or another.

God love the 1st ones. When the 1st 225 (orders from the 1st NAB) say jump... it is "how high on the way up" as far as I'm concerned.

Jim

Off the charts? :)

Cigar time!

You might had no idea, and you still might have no idea, but you sure have done and continue to do some crazy great and cool Pro Cinema Toys, and after EPIC, if DRAGON and REDRAY are to bench mark what RED has been up to, then, oh well, the future of RED looks pretty good to me... And you might very well have an idea after all... ;)

I was happy to be in the first 758. I know 1-225are amazing customers but being in under 1000 is still a pretty special feeling. I'm just looking forward to the upgrade email now.

Its been cool living this history with you. Red m, red MX, EPIC , Scarlet and now dragon.

All these years and growth. Even though I feel nostalgic for a moment I'm actually feeling a twinge of that excitement I was feeling waiting for the FED ex box with RED M 758 with no idea how much it would change my life and how many people I would help.

EPIC 111 took that to a whole new level.

When I see that Dragon email it will be a good day.

Isn't it awesome to have no idea so that nothing limits you.

Yes.

its a zen monk, ninja, spirit warrior, shaolin monk way of being and it feels great. :)

That means a lot Jim, thank you. That first $1000 on #182 when I didn't have the cash was a big leap... 2nd best investment I've ever made.

Self censoring is bad. Having no idea is freeing.

Happy to be amongst the first 600 early adopters!

I would've been in that line if I'd had the money, I've been a Red fanboy since the Dvxuser days! Keep doing what you're doing!!

We mean well. We try hard. We think the future is easy to see. As much as we see... we still have no idea.

Jim

Always beware of those who seem to know it all.

What a difference a day makes, and the wait is worth every minute of the finished product. I am very excited. Thanks again for pushing the limits for us... "Ain't No Rest For The Wicked" and we appreciate all of team RED.

Few things are more expensive to produce than wildlife documentaries

Compared with other TV docs maybe, but not compared with anything in the feature world. Even the BBC's biggest wildlife series are still on tight budgets.

I'm a wildlife shooter who just bought an EPIC, because I love what it can do, and I think 4K is no brainer for the future; however, it's not easy to get producers to pay an Epic's full rate. Most wildlife is shot on ENG cameras with lower daily rates, and the budget is stretched every way possible to get more shooting days in the field. Planet Earth had about the biggest budget ever for a natural history series, and still sits as one of the best productions of its kind ever. It was mostly shot at 720p on Varicams.

The BBC adopting 4K is big news and a step in the right direction, but resolution isn't everything. Most long lens wildlife work shoots at 2K to take advantage of frame rates, and cropping the sensor to get even closer to the animals.

Not all of us had to money to throw down immediately. In the summer of 2005 I became aware of RED, just the website and camera's at $17,500. So don't forget the dreamers, the beg, borrow and stealers, who dug the ditches to claw their way to ownership my friends! Glad to be here with you guys.

Yeah I had about a RED One's worth of student debt and more on the way at the time. :P
