  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

WC Top plate and fun with POGO connectors

Thanks for the tip Michael, I have been using the default channel.
 
And Bjorn, since you got me going on my crusade about Arri accessory locators, here is a pic of the new Wooden Camera Nato Plus handle, which has one on top and on each side. Good job WC. And then the prototype of a 19mm rod with one on the front I had my machinist make. I'm having a few made in 15mm and 19mm. A couple specifically to go into the ends of the Nato handle and a couple just to problem-solve into plates or top mounts or wherever. The WC Weapon top plate has some in the corners, but they easily get covered since there is so little real estate. The camera is so freakin' small.

Hey guys, Michael from Wooden Camera. Just want to chime in on the Easy Top (Weapon/Scarlet-W/Raven).

The reason the website pictures look different is because it was a fake version before any real plates were made. Rest assured there is no issue with the fan intakes as we did many many full days worth of testing and monitoring core temps. In regards to the WiFi, it is unfortunately WiFi and if there is some blockage you will have a small change in the signal strength but it is negligible compared to any other accessories attached to the camera top.

Thanks for chiming in Michael. (And thanks for adding the Arri points to the revised Nato Handle). Here is my vote for a stand alone side pogo adapter that locates the EVF/LCD Lemo straight out the front. But good to know there aren't any issues running the cable over the top as designed. I do like that I can take it out and reposition it, since I prefer another location. Good work.

so the new easy rider plate and 15mm lightweight rod attachment, are those newly designed models just for the new bodies, or are they same as the privious ones for epic and scarlet?

I already asked Ryan about this last year. The riser is newly designed for the weapon. I can confirm this as I got the riser around Christmas and it did not on my epic. The old LW15 rod adapter will work with the new riser. So you can use the old one, like i am going to, if you've got one.
 
FoolControl shows fan speeds in its UI, which is a handy way to monitor this...

I wish RED would teach me to read logs, as I'm sure the temp and fan data is all there.

Thanks for chiming in. I would suggest replacing the "fake" product photos on the WC store, with "real" accurate product photos that match the shipping product. If you are worried about potential buyers backing out due to concern about fan blockage upon viewing the Pogo/Lemo cable path, you could note/highlight your tests and results of temperature and fan performance with the top plate... But shipping an item that looks different than your advertised product is never a good idea in the long run. As a repeat WC customer I'd suggest updating the store photos... or modify the cable to take a non-obstructive path.

Personally think this issue is getting a little overcooked (pun intended) - running the WC top plate and in Australia on a few hot days, not seeing any fan behavior of concern. Was a little surprised at the cable location given the plate design (vents) seemed to be expecting it wouldn't be obstructed.. but the ability to rotate or relocate, and the fact this gives our Weapon some top plate love, I'm giving this both thumbs up.

I'm curious where the top handle & fischer connectors+cables will squeeze in looking at the plate design and spacing; apparently this will be a user self-mod capable bit of gear coming soon. Along with the top plate love we can give our bundled new top handle some love too!

Appreciate WC gave us customers on standby the option to take delivery of the top plate now and add that later. Having 2x legacy display outputs and a top plate has been super helpful for a variety of reasons (not the least of which is my desire to keep that top carbon fiber finish shiny and new) I agree the WC images might seem misleading but in light of all this, happy with the plate regardless and it's not actually something I've given a second thought to until seeing this thread.

Haven't tested the Wifi (concerns raised earlier) but if I get off the leash this weekend I'll try and run some tests with and without.
 
ordered my easy riser, rod support and monitor hood last night when scarlet announced shipping, this morning it's already on its way!
might be a good idea for people before they get back ordered or something!

We will be updating the photos soon, but our top priority is getting all these Easy Top (Weapon)'s out for you guys!

This is a good idea. Orders a pouring in so being ahead of the game is always smart! Still about a two week lead time on those. We will be putting up our Cable-less battery plate for Weapon/Scarlet-W/Raven by next week!

Zip ties are your friend.

It's really that mesh sheathing that makes it so wide. Zip ties will cut that in half at least if you're paranoid about it.
