  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

WC Top plate and fun with POGO connectors

This might have been asked before?!
I'm looking to get some accessories from WC but have some questions:
1. Does the WC Top Plate block the Wifi Signal?
2. Is the Easy Riser really needed? Can't remember ever having one of those on a DSMC1 Body and never had problems.

Thanks

The riser will raise the camera so the lens is at industry standard hieght. Not a big deal if you don't need rods attached to a mattebox.

Means as long as it is a clip-on matte box I'm good but if it's a rod based matte box I need the riser?
Also does this apply if I'm using a 19mm rod baseplate?
Why would Red build the camera that way? Anyways thanks for the Information.

i think you need the easy riser just so you protect the bottom mounting of your camera too. i saw someones scarlet that didnt use one and the bottom of his camera was pretty scuffed up and worn.

Yeah you need a riser to get it to the correct height for 15mm Studio or 19mm Rods, or even 15mm LWS (which would normally bolt on to the front of the riser). Why would Red build it that way? Well would you rather they made the camera even taller so you wouldn't need it? I would have actually preferred if it was shorter and required an even thicker riser to get to the right height as well as allowing 15mm LWS rods to pass under and towards the back, but that's just me. And yeah it is a good idea to protect the bottom and the mounting points. That way if you strip a bottom thread you can just get a new riser instead of sending your camera in for repair.

Just wanted to chime in and help clear anything up!

There are three rod standards: 15mm LW, 15mm Studio and 19mm. Follow this guide if you have any questions regarding which is offset, closer to the optical center, and so on.

The Easy Top (Weapon) will not block WiFi signal to a noticeable extent. The smallest items will always interfere with a signal in some way or another, but you being able to tell will probably not be possible.
