Want To Beg: Looking for a free RED One MX

Or you could like just NOT take up prostitution and NOT take out a huge bank loan you can't afford and try and get by some other different way.

That would be my idea!

again YMMV!

That might be a good idea, and if I remember correctly even the dear Red leader pointed that out to his customers some 9 months ago. Speaking of honesty...

Well, the new pricing scheme is not the end of the world for current customers, and it brings onboard a lot of new customers, keeping Red a healthy company I would guess.

I'm a bit pissed about the lack of proper real-time RedCode (the over-expensive RedRocket seems like a compromise, not handeling 5k in realtime and it has some image quality issues) and the media prices would feel better at some 25% less, but most importantly the +1 adapter to complete our Epic-shoulder rig would be nice... Maybe they can speed up these developments by the sales boost they've hopefully generated?

Stepping away from this thread. I think it's great to have a sense of humour about things, but I don't want to get pulled into all the negativity and nastyness surrounding the issue.

Would just say to people, whatever their situation, try to be positive and turn it around for yourself.

I have to say the story you gave seems very different to most of the complaints I have heard which were more along the lines of "I was having a lot of success renting out my camera, I wrote off the cost of my camera against tax, so basically got it for free, and now the residual amount is so little that I can't even be bothered to sell my camera because I'm not going to make as big a profit doing so as I expected. I feel so sad that I think I'm just going to take a break and drive off to my second home in Mexico."

Nobody likes to admit that they are poor, and most filmmakers and even film-workers are like most artist poor and starving, unless they are married to a lawyer or similar. You should show them some respect and not lick off tears, it's not nice to celebrate others loss, as I think you've been doing... For many these price cuts came very unexpected and will hurt them financially. Not being able to exit the wagon without take a huge loss is also quite uncomfortable.

It's definitely worth keeping that in mind for new customers too in fact.
One positive thing about all this negativity is that it might help people thinking of buying a camera now, to consider it carefully!

Having shot almost every week for two years with a Red One M/ MX before my Scarlet's release I saw first hand what the image is capable off achieving after the fact and on set. I never had to mess with black shading my camera. Scarlet has to be black shaded everytime you want to shoot or your blacks will be littered with blue noise. Even still I see more noise on the Scarlet.

No clue what the specific reason is but I have a hunch the Epic/ Scarlet MX sensor differs some how. Is it bigger than th Red One MX or completely identical? if its identical it has to be the way it processes the image. Also, 2K is less noisy on the Red One MX and that goes for both Epic and Scarlet

I have no beef in this fight as I'm a Nov. 3rd Scarlet owner and the price decrease didn't hurt me one bit. It helped me tremendously!! As it allows me to buy the Red One MX which in its current state is a little better than Scarlet. But of course no more upgrades for it. It's basically like most other cameras now ;)

I agree that the RED One MX is a great camera... even if I can't get one for free... I will buy at least one used below 4k. .. preferable closer to $2000 for just the body. I don't need accessories.

I've definitely not been celebrating the loss of others. You just invented that. Maybe I should take it up! Not in my nature tho and I think you are spot on by suggesting that those with the least means, are those least shouting about it! I however do not like all the "poor me" from certain individuals doing just fine, I dislike intensely the suggestion that others should be shut out or worse, as one person suggested that there were people waiting on the sideline for "handouts".

I've actually tried to be positive and make positive suggestions to people.
However I am a bit sick of feeling sorry for those who least deserve my sympathy.
It's a bad habit I have.

I don't understand all this.
The signal to noise ratio in the forum is getting unbearable. If you want a R1 just go and buy one. If you can't afford it, you can't afford it. Don't embarrass yourself and this community.
i own a Scarlet that has paid itself. Just ordered a red one that is already lined up for a couple of jobs and will have itself paid off in no time.
Im a serious DP with a serious business and serious clients. I get great advice and learn something new here every day (well, except the last couple of days...)Please stop littering the forums...

This community was already embarrassing before I got here.

I own a RED One and two EPICs... as well as a lot of other gear... my point was that since it's now so cheap from RED with a 90 day warranty and a SSD reader... if anyone wants to get rid of theirs I'll gladly accept it. I don't see much value in paying for one right now especially since it's been EOL'd and won't see any firmware updates. Albeit I'm willing to pay $2000 or below for one... I have a 17" MacBook Pro 2.5GHz laptop I'm also willing to trade for one.

Regarding your other points about already paying for your Scarlet and jobs lined up for your RED One... that's the exact reasons why I want a cheap or free RED One MX... I could pay that off in no time.

Hmm, I never black-shade and never will. I'll call that random acts of beauty if it damages the images. I don't understand why/how/when to blackshade, and I'm not interested. Never had a problem with noise though...

But how do you know who to sympathise with and who not to? It seems like you think that anyone who managed to get the means to get their hands on an Epic (no matter what it cost them) are some douches, and that they have no right to feel saddened by the fact that they could have saved that money in the bank and bought a camera 6 weeks later, and maybe afford decent food or a vacation for their family on the differential.

I'm not sure that's true about the firmware. For one, Red still owes us a release build of 32. They will not make any new cameras but I suspect will support it for a reasonable time moving forward.

O trust me I've been thinking about the silver lining. I can only thank Jim Jannard for selling a once 25k camera for 4k overnight. I figure since RED sells there EOL'd camera with a 90 day warranty (that is equated to $850 with an ownership transfer fee and inspection fee) and a SSD module (a $1500 value)... and many RED One MX owners don't have the SSD module or a 90 day warranty or an inspection. It's not far fetched of me to ask for one for free.

*IF* they are indeed selling those Stage 3, 3.5 RED One cameras... then it's conceivable that they have thousands in stock. It could take them forever to clear their inventory. If you are waiting on the sideline looking to get rid of yours... then why not donate it to me? I could even trade something worth $1650 for it? Which is the difference of the cost of the SSD + warranty and inspection.
I'm not looking to get rid of mine because it still makes money, and is worth a lot to ME. I acknowledge though that my situation and someone else's situation might be completely different. That's why I am able to sympathize with both sides on this matter. Business models can differ. Sometimes with equal success. I try not to judge anyone's business model because quite frankly it's not my place to.

It took RED 1.5 years to come out with Build 32 (Beta)... if it takes 1.5 years when the camera is not EOL'd... then why do you think the support now will be better?

I agree that your situation with your RED One MX maybe different... I can't force it from you... but surely there must be people not shooting on their RED One MX's and don't plan to either. A lot of people invested in this camera that are not really active filmmakers. My business is mostly music videos and I could use another RED One MX. The added value that I give my client for a RED One shoot goes way beyond the camera.

I can't speak for anyone at RED. All I know is that Build 32 is on V32.0.2 Beta. Therefore, the bugs need to be worked out and a release build needs to happen. Overall it's been rather stable but getting a release build is still necessary and I think RED will follow through. Jarred or Brent can jump on and correct me if I'm wrong and inform us if there is no intent to finish that build.

If you manage to get someone to donate a Red One to you, I will declare you the best salesman on Reduser. If you manage to get someone to sell it for $500, I'll still give you the award. Perhaps there is someone out there that has no use for one and wants to be charitable. I doubt it, but stranger things have happened, especially on Reduser. :-)

EDIT: Jarred just confirmed that they will continue firmware updates, including new color science. Just don't expect new features, framerates, etc.

LOL... we'll see... I've been called persuasive before.

I'm glad that Jarred as posted this. Makes me comfortable purchasing or trading for another one.

I'll make it simple. I think we would all love to have a Red One camera for free. If everyone acted on that hope, we would all post it on this forum. If we all posted it, the forum would be flooded with thousands of begging posts, and the mods would have to remove them all. This is a buying/selling thread... Therefore, this thread should not exist.
