Hey everyone. I know that any Leica M 35 and longer works on Epic/Scarlet but I was wondering if anyone has experience with Voigtlander M mount lenses? Just out of curiosity. I do realize though they are not even close to Leica optically and should not even be compared. I was just looking through Leica options on Lensrentals.com and saw the Voigtlander 50 1.1 and 35 1.2 and wondered how they might look. I would guess as long as the are 35 or longer they will work too?

The 35 does not work on the M mount, just tested it myself last week (mount too shallow). The 1.1 50mm looks like it is not a real 1.1. A Super Speed 1.3 gave wide open a bit lighter image. Not scientifically tested and F1.1 is not the same as T1.1. The CA and contrast were similar to the Super Speed. The close focus of the 50 was a bit disappointing (like the noctilux...) at 1 meter.
hope that helps

The 50mm f 1.1 is more like a T 1.4. But optically some Voigtländer/Cosina lenes are not bad at all.

too bad the 35mm doesnt work, it's one hell of a glass!
i own the 50mm f1.5 , lovely lens, it gives 95% of what a Leica lens delivers for 1/10th of the price..

The 35mm f/1.2 Voigtlander M-Mount does indeed work on DSMC and DSMC 2 bodies. It works "best" if you have those two fins shaved off. I did that for a job sometime ago. Beware that bluish/purple vignetting can occur on this lens due to it's retrofocus design and the specific photosite design of the Dragon sensor.

Here's a grab from it on Epic Dragon:

Fantactic mate, and it looks quite nice ! love the render you get out of Voigtlander primes

By the mount being too shallow does that mean that the sensor is too close or too far from the lens?
Has anyone tried an M to EF adapter?
a bit of a "ghetto" solution
but would this adapter work/solve the protruding back element issue?

By extending it out, it would help close focusing as well. Not sure if it would mess with infinity focus.

I'm hoping to use the voigtlander 15mm heliar and 35mm f1.2 on the raven.

Thanks!

Just to set the record straight Leica M lenses , being range finder lenses are not retrofocal (or rear telecentric) design. Retrofocal applies to SLR lenses as it creates room for the flip up mirror.
Also the purple fringing towards the edges occurs because the lenses are not rear telecentric and the incident angle towards the edges of the frame is too steep to hit the pixel correctly. It also causes vignetting. Leica sensors have the (edge of the) sensor micro lenses angled towards the center to compensate for it.
Sorry, lens police here ;-)

Phil, please, what adapter did you use? no issues with infinity focus? i really want to make that lens work,
thx!

RED DSMC Leica-M Mount.

I purchased the lens via Camera Quest and requested to have the fins removed. They were very kind to make that happen. I imagine certain lens techs might be able to do this as well.
