  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

VistaVision and Monstro and cinematography?

So I am sorry but I may be confused. Is someone saying you can't design really fast lenses that cover VV?

I shot on a Monster equipped PV DXL last night on a 50 year old 50mm T/1.0 Panavision lens and it totally covered the VV sensor.

Ugh that sounds like heaven hahahaha. Anything you can share with us?????

That was Canon FD I believe. Ultra speed? I worked in Panavision lens department in the 80s in NY

You could be totally correct Jacek.... The design dates from when I was just starting to work so it is from the 70's at least I think

I use my regular canon FD 50mm f1.2 it cost what, 100usd and is one of the best lenses I seen optically and covers fine.

Will rehouse/remount a full range of FD’s together with a set of k35’s soon. I see the FDs are something of the forgotten gems out there The original mount is a bit weak but there is really nice spread of focals available and the builds and coatings are more appealing than the ef, not merioning the price and the price for the red fd mount.

Heaven for everyone except the focus puller, and perhaps the audience who would probably prefer to see more than one eye in focus. :-P

More than one photographer has said that FD lenses were better than EF lenses. This does not surprise me, as you had to make compromises for AF. Maybe not so much now, with sophisticated CAD applications. Still, I do wonder why FD lenses are still 'affordable'. ;-)

Yes most ef are crap builds if you ask me. No endstop / spinning focus rings with short throw and low cost plastic housings.
Sone things where simply better made in the past.
