Hi,

Do you know if there is any vintage cinema lenses that can cover the helium sensor? (I'm talking about veritable cinema lenses, not leica R/contax rehoused)

Thanks.

Haven't tried them on Helium yet, but Mitchell Hi Speeds AKA Baltar Super Speed lenses cover 6K Dragon and should cover VistaVision (when I bought them they came with a Fries 35mm 8-perf camera). They also cover Open Gate and 3.2K Alexa.
Here's a link about my set, which is EXTREMELY rare: http://www.reduser.net/forum/showthread.php?144209-Mitchell-Hi-Speed-Super-Speed-Baltar-Lenses

Never had the chance to try a set of Canon K35 that I owned once with a Dragon camera, but the 18mm T1.5 covered Epic MX very well, and projected the set once and all the lenses covered VistaVision (43mm circle; the 18mm covered about 35-37mm circle "only"). The full set should cover 8K Helium, that format being close but smaller than Dragon 6K.

I believe the new Panchro Classics by Cooke, made using the designs of the original S2/S3 Speed Panchros, will have improved coverage compared to the originals. But even if they fully cover Super 35 (31.1mm circle) they still won't fully cover 8K Helium (originals cover as much as Dragon 5K HD or 4.5 FF, it depends of the 18 and 25mm of each set).

Super Baltars and Kowas have pretty good coverage, but won't fully cover Helium. These cover a slightly bigger area than The original S2/S3's. The same applies to Zeiss Standard Primes T2.1's.

Zeiss High Speeds T1.4 (three iris blades) and Superspeed T1.3, on the other hand, should cover or being pretty close to cover Helium 8K FF, as they cover Dragon 6K HD nicely (or 5.5FF if you don't like softer edges of the frame). They will certainly be OK at Helium 8K HD.

Do you mean cover it entirely or at 7K? Because at 7K that would mean probably any cinema lens vintage and modern.

Thanks for the informations Ignacio

Most longer cinema lenses do and very few wide onces. If you get down below 18mm then its most likly not covering.

K35 has a 43mm coverage, I believe that should cover Helium 8K., more then the how many K's a camera has, its SENSOR size is the important factor in which lenses would cover or not.
I put my set on Venice 6K FULL GATE and it covered starting at 24mm and up.
