  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

I've uploaded a couple of Videos to Vimeo over the last few days in 4k UDH and they playback in 4k UHD. I confirmed this by looking at the page code, but its easy to see. Not great for people with slower connections but there are ways round that by linking in the playbacks from HD in the description as I have done here.

Beautiful work!

It does on my two. I know they are rolling this out over time. Looks like a glitch to me, but never the less its streaming from a UHD file.

I think it was mostly the Zeiss Otus 55mm. A nikon 35mm for the whacking shots. and the Canon 24-105 at the beach (boy).

Beautiful stuff James but for me painfully slow buffering. Perhaps Vimeo is working on a way to shorten download speed. The 4K footage I have seen on You Tube seemed easier to deal with.

Under any circumstances.. nice work.

Example of how Vimeo displays 4k & HD content.
Basically you need to double you bitrate for Vimeo to recognise what source you require. Too low bitrate and you will only get 1080p max. HD 1440p is a nice jump up from standard HD 1080p as Vimeo use twice the data rate. A good option even for upscaling 1080p to give a bitrate boost to the vimeo recompression.

• 4k UHD 21MB Streaming file (Original Source 128MB)
• HD 1440p 9MB Streaming file (Original Source 64MB)
• HD 1080p 4MB Streaming (Original Source 32MB)

Hi Björn, No yours is not streaming 4k. Depends on length etc but as an example for 3mins film you need at least 65mbit and for a shorter clip 120mbits.

Try the latter using H.264 Profile 5.2, Constant bitrate.

Will be interesting when H.265 is supported.

Very nice James!! I'm just upgrading my scarlet to an epic (no dragon for me...yet!) and am looking forward to shooting at different frame rates. What were you shooting at on this?

thx,

Hi James,

I followed your instructions and seems to me it's not playing back in 4k?

h.264 uhd 4k profile 5.2 cbr 120 and 24 key frame
