  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

VFS Store up and running... turning on tomorrow

There is only one input device - the control knob. You can only control the motors one at a time with the impero standard. The pro will have a couple sliders and a knob and will allow you to control all three axis at the same time. It will also have some more advanced functionality in terms of video display and lens informations etc.

One option may be to run a separate battery for the motors... if you get a 150 wHr battery then we could run three motors for about 4 hrs.

If thats not an option then the only alternative is to re calibrate after each battery change - the time to do that is about 15-20 seconds. If you are running three motors off the battery and are good at thinking ahead then you could actually start calibrating the motors while the camera is booting up, you should be able to get the calibration done and have a minute to spare before the camera is even ready to go.

So how long do you think the RED battery is going to last when it's powering the RED, EVF, RED Drive, and your motor & receiver? To me, the high power draw is the only downside to this system compared to a tradition follow focus unit.

Redoing the calibration while rebooting doesn't bother me. The only problem is if you've marked your focus ring, you need to make sure you get it to a certain point so the focus marks still align. Either that, or if you could have the motor do it's calibration, and then the motor go back to it's original spot (which would work great if someone doesn't move the focus knob while the motor is off or re-calibrating.)

yean, ordered and payment went through for the inclino, impero and also the irigo from Curt's company. Hope they are delivered in May as scheduled.

The Focus ring on the controller would still be marked as to the range of the lens would it not? so no change in your marks if the end stops of the lens are the same. Assuming of course that the physical controller also has end stops.
Unless perhaps you've reduced the scale on the controller?

Otherwise if the motors are on the lens during a change there should be no reason to lose their position.

If you pull the motors off while the power is down you'd be unlikely to place them back dead on again anyhow and a re-calibrate would end up being easier for that. But your marked disc should still work.

Dale, thats correct. The calibration range should always be the same and the only issue would be if you have set a gearing ratio other than the default range. The knob is setup so it can be mechanically limited to 359 degrees or it can left to spin freely with no mechanical limitations. I forsee people using the mechanical stop 90% of the time though.

I'm looking into having the motors remember their range and defaulting to the last saved range unless you override and recalibrate... that may help with the battery changes and gearing to knob marking correlation but its going to be a risky proposition.... the first time someone forgets to recalibrate on a lens change bad things will happen - but then again you could do a lens change with power applied and still forget to recalibrate any way.

Nice to see your products come to life. Best of luck with your project, Curt.

Yes, we've already verified that the trigger and ramp functions work. We're suggesting that you use the mute when using them though so you dont hear an annoying "BEEP" in your shot when you initiate the ramp.

I'm delighted to have made an order with CVB and bros.

I hope he is able to fulfil everything that he is obviously capable off. Having said that I hope everyone realises how amazing it will be to have a remote system at the price he is offering. We should cut him a little slack if there are any bumps along the way.

He is pulling something off that, in its own more modest way, is amazing as Red one.

Good luck

Michael

Thanks Michael, that means a lot to me. We are pressuring our suppliers to get the parts back in a timely manner... that means throwing more money their way :)

Yes, there are still some issues. We should have some answers from our credit card gateway today. There have been a lot more orders going through lately though. I'd suggest you contact your credit card company and verify that you can place an order for whatever amount you are trying to charge... that has been an issue with a few people.

Hi Curt,

I've been following you guys for a long time, congrats on getting your gear into production !

Just ordered the Inclino and Impero .. perfect timing too, I was just about to order an Arri FF4.

Nice work and thanks !

We ordered yesterday. . . we are totally pumped about this product!

Did not see in this thread, but is the VFS digital follow focus compatible with Nikon lenses provided you have the appropriate gears attached?
