You're right, Curran :-) Looks like it was sent as "economy" package (probably to save money) so I'm guessing it's being sent here by truck or something. The FedEx website initially said that it would be delivered here yesterday, but now it says it's status is "unknown".

Thats no fun, but at least yours has been sent. Please let us know what you think of the new version of the motors when it arrives.

Thanks again !!

Cheers, Tim.

So....

I drove out to the regional FedEx facility to pick up the package from Viewfactor because traffic is crazy these days with the snow storm and climate conference going on in Copenhagen. I thought the FedEx guy wouldn't make it until next week at the earliest so I went to pick it up myself. Got home and set everything up. First off - can't get wireless to work at all, which is a major bummer since this is supposed to be a wireless system. The unit won't sync - and I can't get the receiver and Impero to pair. Wired works fine, though. Wireless works fine with the somewhat faulty Impero I still have lying around from the previous shipment.

Anyway - the new generation Inclinos seem to have a bit more torque and the movement in them seems to be much smoother than the previous ones. From my quick test it appears to be hitting the marks every time no matter how much I try to confuse it, so that's good. Also - no slipping as with the old Impero with the faulty encoder.

I noticed that there are still a lot of software issues that need to be cleaned up. There's some lens-protection issues that need to be addressed in order to make sure the motor doesn't damage the lens. Right now it doesn't stop right before the lens' limit but hits it pretty hard, which doesn't sound or feel right. I'm sure this is a pretty easy fix. I would have thought the knob/lens limit feature had been implemented by now but I couldn't get it to work if it was.

But, but, but... There are still some torque issues with all of the three motors sometimes when I turn the knob all the way from limit to limit at full speed. It just dies and the system needs to be power-cycled to come online again. I know this is not something that a focus puller is prone to do a lot, but it's still unacceptable.

I hope to be able to test the Inclino on some other lenses than my RED Primes (specifically Ultra Primes and Super Speeds) and we'll see whether or not I will send the whole thing back and ask for a refund.

Tony,

Great to get your results, ok...maybe great isn't the right word. But thanks for letting us all know.

So what do we know now:

1# A couple of quick posts from Curt to make it look as though he was updating regularly again and has now vanished again.

2# Still only a handful of units out there, and shipping to the 'paid in full' customers is no where near close.

3# Shipped units getting very mixed results with some being claimed as great and fully functional, while a good share of the units are just not working and have had many problems.

4# After a very long and extensive time it must be thought now if these units are ever going to work, be reliable and able to be used confidently on a professional set.

5# Who knows if we will actually ever get our FF units we paid for if Curt just can't get these to work and just shelves the project. He can't keep on at these FF devices for an infinite amount of time and cost, there will be a limit...it's a BIG unknown and no-one knows!

IMHO it feels as though the Viewfactor ship has sailed, been caught in a storm, is taking on water and is now creeping back to Port before she sinks. But when you do the maths she will sink to the depths just in sight of land...let's see if Curt can call the Coast Guard to save him. (By the way Curt, that's a message in that i think you may need to bite the bullet and get in some more engineering/technical help to get this system working. Bit of pride must be swallowed to respect your investors and save your venture.)

Well said! I hope its not a costly coast guard... In any case my clock is ticking and I'm sure many others are feeling the same way.

I'm writing up a respond to Curt based upon my findings, but I want to test it out with Ultra Primes and Super Speeds first.

you must be quite disappointed tony after all of the waiting effort

I am very excited now. !4 months of waiting and it might only work wired? Awesome. Is this item actually real or did I buy a bridge in Brooklyn (coincidentally Brooklyn is where I live, so if I bought a bridge here that will work out well)?

I have to be honest. Been really patient with Curt and the team. But if its taking this long to make something work, I think it probably will never live up to its expectations.
I ordered on the 31st March 2008 and am number 51. The wait has been 1 year and 9 months and unfortunately don't get much responses to my emails, accept shipping next week. Shipping soon.
It's very disappointing to make promises than don't deliver especially when they are asking for the full payment from clients instead of a deposit which probably would have been the better business move.
Good luck to all those that stick around, I hope it works out to be something great.
But times up for me. I'm going with the refund.

you have just as long a wait for that....i asked for a refund in october. still nothing.

yeaaaahhhh...i'm afraid i think your $ are gone and it's just a wait and see if something comes from it all. I had drawn a mid-december timeline for it all but just figured i wouldn't get any money back now so i'm just hoping something comes from it all. I'll never do this again in my life though. But Curt...i'm happy to eat my words...prove me wrong!

Oh well, i'm heading all the way from Australia to NAB in April so if i don't have it by then i am heading to Curt's place and not leaving till i get the cash and making my way to NAB to buy something, anything that's there:)

Thats even more disappointing. I guess they have to sort out their business model before making promises to their clients.
I do remember them saying that a full refund will be paid immediately if we decide we can't wait anymore.
Its all a bit disappointing and has now put a huge X on their company.

Well.. I received mine Inclino/Impero three weeks ago and it works fine also wireless.
I must say that I don't have experience with other wireless systems and I only used it with the RED zoom lenses

So far it seems like only Tony has problems with his unit or does anyone have any more problems to report?

Great question, I ask it again. Others?

Sofar it seems like only Tony has problems with his unit or does anyone have any more problems to report?

I sent my motor back. it was not operating properly. I am still waiting for a replacement.

Cheers, Tim

But when did you receive the motor that you sent back?

I received my Follow Focus on August 4th, I returned it about two weeks later as it was not operating properly. I was one of the first 10 orders.

Saw that you were over in the Cinema5D forums Curthttp://www.cinema5d.com/viewtopic.php?f=17&t=6929&st=0&sk=t&sd=a&start=30. Would you mind giving us an update over here as to the status of the machinery and our orders? It would make a great Judeo-Christian Festival Season gift for everyone here (sorry if I left any one out of my holiday greetings, still working on a totally all encompassing phrase).
