i made that post 9 months ago....when i still had faith

I was speaking with a friend of mine today who already has a VF Inclino/Impero and he seems to be able to speak with Curt on the phone anytime he tried. At the same time people here complain that they haven't heard of him about their order for over a year! Isn't that odd?

The only thing for certain is that the FF is delayed and that Curt is not a Reduser fanatic.

My guess is that most of the FF's production problems are eliminated and Curt doesn't write here because he knows the ordered items are going out of the shop so he waits for all the rage here to calm down naturally in a few weeks.

Miltos, Are you in line? Did you put down a couple thousand dollars a year or more ago? You have a friend that has one...... Your friend is one in about 15 people that have one. Hundreds have paid. I would suggest you report on how your friends unit is working. That would be helpful.

I have spoken with Curt, it's just a couple more weeks.... Any one can, how about we all call him, won't that speed things up?

I paid for my unit 13 months ago. I was told it would ship September 15th 2008. What day is it today? Hmmm.

I am running a rental house here. Its a small corporation. I don't have a single vendor that is so painfully behind! Not Arri, Sony, Red, Mole, Preston, Panasonic, ETC, Canon, Zeiss, Band Pro, Able, Visions...... and usually I pay after I get the stuff.

If I were a better businessman I would have refunded long ago! But like I said I still have some faith in Curt and the gang. But it is getting real difficult.

I have reported about it a few months ago. I was so impressed that i decided to buy one too. I am waiting now for Curt to fill all the preorders so i can order my unit. If the torture of waiting was out of the equation you would be very surprised when you got it in your hands and considered how much you paid. It's a very good product at a very good price.

I don't know... Are you asking me? I never said anything about speeding things up but if you are one of those who are afraid that Curt took their money and flew to a tropical paradise with a smile on his face it might help to give him a call.

Yes, we all know the story... what else is new?

I feel your pain, however Curt's product was under development when you payed so you can't complain there was a surprise there. The only surprise was the duration of the waiting...

Since i am not one of those who preordered, i guess it's easier for me to keep the faith. I never needed to own a FF since we could rent one anytime we needed but when i saw and worked with the VF FF i just had to get one.

Mine is for sale so if you're up for waiting then just buy mine right now, though you also buy the right to bug Curt for motors that work.

Finally had a chance to play around with my set. I've also read Tony's post and don't have the problem with my RED 50-150. This lens is stiff as hell and the motor encountered no problems at all with zoom, focus or iris. However it did slip a few times and maybe that's just the way I had it setup.

Wireless setup.

Sorry for poor quality video but it's better then nothing.

Just finished uploading so it'll be up soon.

Thanks for posting the video Ivan, but what we see here doesn't really show us any real significant travel over the barrel and nothing that really puts the motor at work. Try putting it on the focus barrel, mark the disc and pull it back and forth between the stops. Then after having done that a few times see if the marks are still spot on.

Hope your not gonna leave that wire for the motor right next to the focus gears to possibly get snagged and cut in half or possibly short something out.

This was a quick setup but I'll do that real soon and update you.

I don't remember you saying that the marks don't line up. I know you mentioned that the motors weren't strong enough. But if this is true about marks not lining up then we have a problem.

I did mention that. The problem was two-fold: the motors seem to "slip" when in wireless mode. That is fixed in wired mode and could be caused by a faulty encoder. But I also noticed that even in wired mode the marks will be slightly off after having 'fiddled' with the remote for a while... Check out my video here: http://vimeo.com/6697523

Another thing that's bugging me about this system is the placement of the connectors on the motors. If you have the cables connected to the motors then they will stick down so far that you can't put the camera on the ground without breaking them. Very poor engineering choice if you ask me and it shows that Curt probably isn't much of an on-set guy. The CLM-3 motors from Arri are much more elegant in that way.

I don't expect to hear much of Curt anymore. We can only hope that he will find a reliable and solid business partner to help him save his product (and company).

Wow! This looks very bad!
I wonder if this is an isolated problem with your unit?

Curt, you need to chime in here!

Curt is certain something is wrong with all of my motors and the Impero. I'm still waiting for an e-mail from him concerning replacement units as of last week.

Tony, I've been trying to get a hold of the red lenses to test on. I should have access to some on Wed. After I verify that there are no issues I'll send the replacements.

Is anyone using the Monstercine 3 way quick key handle to lock down the motor?
Ivan, the Red wingnuts fit nicely - a little pricey though. http://www.red.com/store/190-0022

I received 6 Imperos back and found that the magnets were not properly glued to the knobs. When the magnet is out of position the encoder cannot properly track the position and you end up getting drift and inaccurate tracking of the marks on the ring. We have fixed the units we received but if anyone experiences issues shoot us an email and we'll get an RMA to you to send it back so we can fix the problem for you.

On the motor torque front we have made some changes that should fix it once and for all. Once again, if you are experiencing any issues with not having enough torque for your lens (within reason) then send us an email at info@viewfactor.net and we'll debug it with you.

We really want to get these right and I'm sorry for letting units get out into the wild that aren't up to snuff. We are putting these changes into effect for all new shipping orders so this should not pop up again.
