  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Hey Brigham. That three motor set is mine and the motors were delivered just a few weeks ago so I'm assuming they're of the latest batch of motors? All of them have the cycloid motor design. The kit is like new - only used it on one job. Well - half a job, actually.

Right, thanks Tony. I'm starting to get nervous if you say these are the latest 'breed' of motor and they can't turn the lens, not to mention they are not 'there' yet in operational ability. I thought these motors are supposed to have torque like nothing else...

Could you give us more of a detailed report on their pros and cons please?

We have been using a speedy clamp
on the back of the impero controller.
As for the (bus) reciever 3/16. -16 bolts
hold it right on a red side handle perfecctly
and also gives you a pick point for cables

we too had a set of motors that would
not callibrate all the way through the
focus range but they were
retooled by Curt and now work fine.
We do have to occasionanally recalibrate
motors when the are unresponsive
or onbuilding tops with high RF
interference. All in all we are happy
as can be. and to answer Micheal we rent
the system for 200.00 a day, 500.00
a week. So yes that would be 2000.00
a month minus our preffered customer
discounts.

The reports are a bit contradictory. For some, the system performs perfectly and for others it doesn't. :undecided:

Anyhow, I think it's again time for an update, Curt! Please!
Can you tell us which serial numbers or order numbers have been served yet?

2 weeks ago i was next in line...sigh....i am losing my faith i will ever see it.

Pawel, are you selling your also, or are you referring to Tony's?

I'm selling a 1-year old place in the queue for a 1 motor kit.:prrr:

Although you have to be quick because refund has been requested (and not received).

View Factor is a joke
They emailed me in July saying August was my ship dated
I emailed them a few times in September and no reply
Just plain rude
I know once I get there gear I'll always think bad of the company for how the have treated the people that paid in full with no product in sight.

I think it's pretty obvious to one and all there are some major problems with the FF unit and this results in a very small amount of units in the field and with very mixed results and performance. The lack of communication is a direct result of this as he works to try and get the system working sufficiently and just puts off many people pulling the plug. I think the majority of us are now at a point were we either sit back and hope he can succeed or pull out, try to get our money back and see VF sink. If this happens i would be very surprised if anywhere near the majority of people got there money back and VF went bankrupt.
I think the only real option left is to see it as your money gone and just cross fingers he gets the system working as good as we have been told to expect it to and that we all actually get one:) My support now only extends to not asking for my money back and to just hope. Who knows...

Only one year? Don't be so impatient!

hahaha. It took me 1/10th of the time to make a 3 - motor kit using modified titanium gear servo motors. :smash: The servos are strong enough to rotate the whole camera with a tripod, have zero play, are lighting fast and cost a fraction. Both wired and wire-less configurations available. About 1/3 the size and weight too. They work 100%. They may not look as good, that's about it.

If and when I need something better, Bartech and Arri seem to have no trouble delivering reliable units timely.

But, it is not even so much about how long it takes VF to fuck around with this. To me the main reason is that they are the most dishonest outfit I've ever come across. :icon_bs:

Sorry guys, but if I see a bird that looks like a duck, walks like a duck and quacks like a duck, I call that bird a duck.

I wish them good luck and I hope they will change one day, not just deliver working product.

Pawel, can we buy this or get help on constructing DIY (consultant fees/licensing is an option)? I've always thought motors were the way to go for the underwater housing but even though I don't have an order in so can't lose that way I was looking at the constantly imminent VF motors as a reasonable cost solution over gears when Birger/EF isn't an option - and put off either making something ourselves our fully integrating one of the other solutions. I have customer that have implemented Heden and other motors on their own, but their is a desire by many potential purchasers to have a fully configured system. As you know we often wouldn't have the need for the precision and quiet operation that is necessary for other productions - so it could be a bit simpler to reduce cost.

Hi Mike,

No problem. Send me an email (pawel.achtel at 24x7.com.au) and we can discuss further.

The solution is specifically designed for an u/w housing, but will work for just about any remote operation. It is very simple, super precise, extremely compact and all is required is a 5kΩ pot in a housing (or any focus/iris demand).

The thing that I like most is that it is very quick to install and very versatile with doezens of different combinations and configurations possible.

FYI, there is a View Factor. I was in their shop last week. About 4,000 sq ft, immaculately clean, work benches with motors and test equipment spread around, lots of shipping materials in the back, cables and parts nicely organized in bins. I saw three people, but this was at noon, so I don't know if others were out. They even had cots for sleep overs. Everyone was super nice and professional in dealing with me.

They are very much aware of some frustration with customers re: pending orders.

Bottom line is that they are set up to do business and they do not appear to be slackers.

Hopefully this makes some of you feel a bit better.

Great. I've got a drawer full of old Fujinon servos and controllers. But the pots sound ideal - used them many times on the Betacam/Varicam housings.

Thats the bottom line! Well said Edgar.

I still have some faith, I think Curt is a smart guy. I think he is striving for high quality. I think he is trying to solve these problems. I just don't know what the hell is going on? If the system works as well as my old Preston hard-wire with no wire, I will be happy. If it sets up quicker I will be stoked. But I need it in my hand eventually!

Curt, I know this is painful buddy, but your telling us what is going on, is probably the only way you can avoid a mass situation. So tell us, what are you fighting Dude?

I was speaking with a friend of mine today who already has a VF Inclino/Impero and he seems to be able to speak with Curt on the phone anytime he tried. At the same time people here complain that they haven't heard of him about their order for over a year! Isn't that odd?

The only thing for certain is that the FF is delayed and that Curt is not a Reduser fanatic.

My guess is that most of the FF's production problems are eliminated and Curt doesn't write here because he knows the ordered items are going out of the shop so he waits for all the rage here to calm down naturally in a few weeks.

This is a nasty thread...

I know what a pissof it is to get delays that... Well never come... I bought a Red! :)

But if this product was made by Red, Jim would have kicked the shit out of some of the guys here!...

Don't forget, as someone cleverly mentioned here, that you (we) are the investors, so that's not like ordering on Abel or B&H... The guys are developping this for you (us)...

Chillout with your thousand frozen bucks, serious players put more than 10 on similar gear elsewhere...

Just my 2 cents, but some guys tend to get carried away just because they own a Red Camera... I know we're special :sarcasm: but it also could be because we have manners and are well educated with patience and tolerance being from Jim's school...

I'm buying out anyone cash with a 10% bonus if you want out... PM me!

EDIT: Oh and in the meantime, use your, uh, y'know... FINGERS!

Tony, Rick, Pawel...don't forget there is always this option, 10% on your initial investement aint bad.
