  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Got an email from Curt last night stating my impero/inclino ships this week. :w00t:

Awesome!!! Anyone else get the shipment email?

We need Pix when you get it!

Can Imperio control Andy Lenisak's Canon mount ? thanks, Dave

As far as I know, Andy Lesniak's mount has no wireless functionality and so can't be controlled with an Impero.

Actually I was wrong. Andy mentions a wireless interface for his EOS Smart "Pro" mount here:

but not sure if is the case for the imminent version he is releasing before Christmas.

Sadly, my Impero is serial #60 or so... I need it next week, but had to set up a different (rental) solution instead. I'm still hopeful that I can get my kit by the end of the year because I'm going to need the wireless lens control like every day in January. Please Curt... Please!!!!

It's time Curt to push the production, seriously.

We are ready to go with the exception of some last minute fixes... I did the thermal testing on the new Inclino boards on Monday and we hit the maximum temperature on the DSP (controller) as soon as the ambient temperature hit 93 Degrees F. Thats a little low for comfort so I'm getting some thermal interface material to sink some of the heat out of the board to get the operating temperature closer to 110 F. This week has been terrible for getting last minute parts from suppliers due to the holiday. Regardless, first 10 units are going out on Tuesday now and al remaining orders will be shipped by the end of December.

humm. End of dec?

Sounds good, Curt, but the temperature thing has me a bit worried. Even 110F would prove problematic. Over 100 degrees outside gets me looking for additional methods for cooling the camera itself, now I may have to look for ways to cool the motors too???

What about cold?

There is margin on that number... I'll know what the max ambient is tomorrow after I get it in the oven with the thermal interface material on the board. I suspect it will be fine. On the cold side I had them down to -20F and they were fine.

We are talkin' 2008, right?? :whistling:

Wahahahahaaa...... Sorry dude, couldn't resist teasing ya. I just can't wait to get my hands on our ordered FF.... Cheers!

OK, sounds good. The -20F is good news... My own body tends to fail at -20F, so no worries there.

Ok, thermal testing is done... We got up to 113F(45C) and the DSP was still cranking with no problems. We still have a few degrees of margin so the actual ambient we can go to is probably closer to 115F (46C). This is also a worst case scenario of running the motor continuously at 75% speed - I would expect the actual usage to be much less. On another note, I misspoke about the low temperature we tested to. We tested down to 30F(-1C) and we were fine... we are going to do another test with a chamber that can go down to -20C in the next week or so. Here's the data if anyone is interested...

Curt, very glad to hear it. 93 degrees is a cool spring day around these parts.

Looks good Curt. I think ambient temperature won't be an issue. My only concern will be baking in the sun and surface temps on the motors could get scorching hot -- 140~160F. However, the RED One can't get sun baked like that anyway, so there will be some sort of shade implementation in those situations -- not real worried about it.

Definitely interested in cold tests. I'll be jumping right into using these motors in the cold when mine arrive. In most situations, I think the coldest I'll ever operate them at would be -15F, but occasionally we get some major cold in the realm of -24F or so. That sort of cold usually f*cks up all sorts of things such as vehicle electronics and whatnot. But seriously, at about 0F and lower, that's when it starts becoming an issue to keep your LCD monitors and batteries from freezing.
