  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Hi Guys: I am praying that I will be able to get the final version by April 24th so that I can play with it before my May 2nd shoot. However, I ordered a RED cable way back when because I thought that the Scarlet was on the horizon. Its not and I do not own a RED One.

So I will be using a rechargeable battery pack from Batteries.com (Lithium, NM, etc, not sure yet). Does anybody know 1) the power requirements for the motor (ie., input voltage, amp or wattage draw), 2) what kind of a connector/plug is required for the motor or receiver or wherever it goes? and 3) if the connector/plug have more that two pins (i.e., positive/negative) which pins would I use and what is the proper polarity, if I build my own plug/cable to the battery.

Oh and before you respond, please don't tell me to go buy a DTAP battery and buy the DTAP cable from Viewfactor. Not only am a DIY kind of guy who is tired of overpriced camera batteries, but I couldn't even tell you what a DTAP battery is (or what a Lemo connector is for that matter). I only know those terms from reading info on the viewfactor site. Thanks mucho.

You're a do it yourself kinda guy who doesn't know what any of the connectors are?

You're dealing with Power to the camera... If you screw this up you will be a "get my RED fixed for a whole lotta money" kind a guy..

Remember you not just paying for the part, but you are also paying for the peace of mind that using it will not fry your camera or explode your battery.

Good luck to you and be very careful. You only get one shot when it comes to power, and a lot of batteries do NOT cut it.

Oh I know that. I accidently reversed the polarity on a monitor kit and fried it. But that's because I was in a hurry and forgot to test the leads with a voltmeter. Electricity is not rocket science; its very simple actually. So all I need to know is: the input voltage range, and which pins are + and -, and the type of connector and I'm good to go. Surely Curt or John know this, but since they are busy, maybe someone else can share. Cheers

I believe the VF guys have a Dtap cable as one of their options!

Lemo, you may need a tech to build you one.... he will need to see the working VF unit and supplied cabling ;) On that note with a short turnaround, I would recommend ordering VF's Dtap cable.

I hope it all comes together for you and your shoot.

Prost,
Rich

hello everyone.

is anyone of those who opted for the instant delivery having any kind of follow up?

I got tracking numbers months ago, but it still says "initiated" on the FedEx website.

I couldn't agree more. . . I want that FF!

Stephen

The pattern lately has been, good news quickly, bad news or delays...not so fast to post.... I hope I am wrong though

I opted for instant and haven't heard anything either. I did just receive my Birger mount though. Never thought I would receive it before I got my VF.
