  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

VF | Brook's FMJ for Epic-X... free upgrade [RED & Arri version]

To clear this up for me, will the RED QR work with the VF bottom plate? I have the VF Top Plate (I love it) and would like to add the bottom plate. Thanks

I have the quick release plateform as well, will bottom of FMJ work for that?

The FMJ bottom plate is designed to act as a spacer for ET and original RED Arri-style sliding baseplates to rise the camera to the appropriate lens height. It is not specifically designed to work with RED's QR baseplate. That said, you *can* screw RED's QR baseplate into the FMJ bottom but the lens height will be incorrect. Not an oversight, it simply was designed for a different purpose.

We are working on sidearms that do not use the FMJ-bottom - they'll be available after all of the battery plates have shipped. So while the *current* solution is designed to work with *other* baseplates, there is a new version coming that is designed to work with RED's baseplate.

Ordererd a Bat. Plate last week should I be worried something new is coming out?

There are always new things coming out, but you shouldn't be worried. My comment to Rory was in response to his question about whether or not the battery plate will work with the IO [or other] modules. As I confirmed in the APU announcement thread, the battery plates work both on the camera and on modules.

Yes! The sidearms is what I need! Thanks

Department of dumb questions:

1. Will it fit Scarlet?

2. Plans to make it available in battleship grey?

Thanks

Mike

Yes, all of our Epic-X accessories fit the Epic and Scarlet.

If there's enough demand, we'll make it in grey. The only risk is making parts in grey and black but getting into stock issues. Somebody wants to order a black plate but we only have them in grey [or vise-versa] and people have to wait. We'll start to experiment with different grey coatings and will check its match with the Scarlet body when we get our hands on one to play with!

I received the vf fmj bottom plate yesterday!

Now all I need is a Scarlet to mount it to...

Brook ... Do you know yet if these Red side arms will work with your FMJ-X Top plate?

http://www.red.com/store/rail-components/product/dsmc-tactical-ribcage-set-left

If the Red ribs did line up properly with your FMJ Top Plate, this could be a hybrid solution for people wanting to use the Red QR system.

I might then use the full VF arms/cage for the Epic and the QR set-up on the Scarlet.

FYI Brook. My bottom plate screws doesn't line up to mount to the RED QR plate. I was fine with the height to be non standard, but it wouldn't mount.

Sorry, that wont work. The Red spare ribs mount to a plate that attaches to the camera side. Our side arms mount to the bottom plate underneath the camera.

Randall, do you have the older version with the squared off front? That one has a 1/4-20 hole in the middle - newer ones have a 3/8 hole that allows you to use the QR plate. You can send that one back if you like and we can probably give you some sort of discount towards the newer one... or you can drill and tap the center hole per this post.

Have you guys considered making Side Arms that mount to Red's Tactical Adapter (side plate)? I like the idea of using NATO Side Arms but they have to be compatible with Red's QR system. And Red's ribs aren't NATO (not sure why not).

They are not NATO...that's why I am waiting on the one from Brook that will be compatible with the Quick release plate.

I know that they wont work with the VF bottom plate ... but ... will the top of the Red Ribs line up with your FMJ top plate holes?

If they did, the bottom of each rib could attach to the camera's side as they normally do.

Then, you could use the VF FMJ top plate ... the Red Ribs ... and whatever baseplate/QR system you wanted below the camera body. N'est pas?

Could the Viewfactor/BW FMJ Top Plate be substituted in this photo?

My guess is that the top mounting holes of the Red ribs should line up with FMJ Top Plate just fine.

Anybody have both the VF Top Plate and the Red Rib set yet? Something tells me that Ketch could answer this question. ;-)
