I have seen Dragon footy both with and without this characteristic.
David might be correct that if a color science version other than the intended one is used to view footy it might account for the issue.
I was planning to do some blackshade testing before posting or contacting RED. After seeing this thread, I'm now looking for guidance so I don't spend hours going down a rabbit hole. I'm more than happy to put in the time to learn how to manage blackshading, understand when I need to be all over it and in what situations I can just trust that it will look fine, etc. RedUser notes are great and everything, but I'm concerned about spurious correlations (test results that incorrectly identify the causality - i.e. beer leads to heroin) so hard facts from the RedTeam would be much appreciated.
BTW: most camera systems have quite a bit of noise reduction built into the onboard digital signal processing. RED really does want to give you a purer RAW file, noise included. Why don't they just kill it like everyone else? Because you lose detail on shots that didn't require as much NR as the default setting. Its kind of like getting food with the salt already added by the kitchen vs using the shaker on the table to salt to taste.
