  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Vazen 85mm T2.8 1.8X FF Anamorphic PL/EF Lens

I have one here and it's alarmingly good for the price. Should have some footage to share shortly. I'm working with Monstro and this and it does insanely cover the entire sensor if you want a rather wide aspect ratio.

I also have some footage coming as well -- this lens is crazy good for the price

but take away my curiosity ..
How can 1.4 kg be so light for FF 1.8x ???
are the lenses made of glass? or other material?

it is not really difficult to make FF 85mm anamorphic lens. Most if not all vintage cine 85mm anamorphics cover full frame

Hey Phil,

If you don't mind sharing, what are your recommendations for using 1.8x ana on a RED since there isn't an in camera desqueeze for that ratio? Any recommendations for doing the desqueeze in post?

Anamorphic modes are nice in camera, but general I haven't used any of the stock anamorphic stuff for my work. This mainly has to do with me choosing to desqueeze, squash, and scale in post separately.

In which case, much like I'm doing with Komodo and previously even with film, I'm using an external monitor with custom anamorphic support.

4:3 is about what you'd be typically using for a 2.39:1 image, but just as an example, shooting a larger format might allow for more creative flexibility in post in frame extraction and such.

Hey guys, the latest firmware update from RED enables 1.8x internal desqueeze on Red Monstro. Vazen 85mm T2.8 is one of the most affordable 1.8X Anamorphic lens in the market covering full frame sensors.

hahhaha beat me to it.. but ill repeat this..

hahahaha

now.. I gotta say even though I shot this 1.8x lens on a full 17:9 sensor (komodo) and my gemini prior to the update - once DSCM2 firmware supports 1.8x on GEMINI / HELIUM / DRAGON instead of just the MONTSRO these lenses will become a very good option for people still waiting on Atlas.

Quick Look Live - Vazen 85mm T2.8 Anamorphic

By Duclos Lenses

Starts without audio problems at about the 6:22 minute mark.

Looks interesting. Not sure how I feel about the flares having both warm and cold colors in it though (orange and blue). Normally flares lean towards warm or cold overall.

This footage helps to learn more about the flares tone.
