*** VANCOUVER, BC, Any one? ***

I live in Kitsilano in Vancouver, drop me a line any time!! In fact we are shooting a horror called Evil feed here in may so send me a note when you'll be in town.

Hi Ketch,

I too am in Vancouver. If you need any help, let me know. You'll love it here besides a few 'known' areas but they are cleaning those places up supposedly.

Thanks,

Norm

Wow!! You're sounding Canadian already!! Atta boy!!! :)

Will definitely do!

Ketch,

I would really like for the opportunity to meet you and possibly working with you, that is if you decide Vancouver, BC.

Both Kitsilano and Point Grey area is beautiful, but of course the North shore is also. Whatever you decide.

Look forward in meeting you as well, and if there is one thing that I love about this industry is the people I meet in it, working on various projects, so Vancouver here I come, well soon :)

Great to know Norm, hopefully will see you soon, the decision to come to Vancouver dates back before I went back home for the Kidney Transplant when my friend came there on the way to a Cruise to Alaska, after seen the pics, it was Love at first site.

Now I'll be finally, in short on my way there.

And once again this absolute TERRIFIC community that REDUSER is, is bringing support, friend ship and this truly has NO PRICE.

Thank you to all of you that have responded PM'd me and offered their support, I know Vancouver will bring a new and fresh brake for me, and I know also that will bring good Writing times, as well a place to take some time off and shoot some of those Gorgeous sceneries.

ciao

Ketch, if you like the rain it sounds like it will be heavenly for you. It truly is one of the most beautiful places I've ever been and I'm sure it will be a good place for you to regain your health.

Can any of you Vancouverites shed some light on Lionsgate? When I was living there, it was suggested that, though Van is the company's original home, now it's sort of just a mail drop office or something. Haven't their HQ and main operations moved to New Mexico or LA? I lived in Van while attending film school, so I didn't have much to do with major studios and distributors other than trying to tour them when they were feeling generous. As a huge horror fan, I thought I was in a great place to try and intern for LG, but it seemed at the time that they weren't really active in Vancouver. Am I totally off the mark with this thinking?

Ketch, you may want to look into this if you're really interested in trying to contact them. It might be easier to get to Cali or NM to try and get a meeting before you head north.

There's not many places in the world where you can ski 10" of fresh powder (Grouse Mountain) while looking out over your entire city. While you're skiing that sugar powder, you can also see dozens if not hundreds of sailboats below on a good day. (I know you won't ski Ketch, but you get the same view from the coffee shop!)

For those of us who live here, the rain defines us. It's not "rain" like it is in the rest of the world, it's rain like Seattle rain......it's who we are (in the winter time at least).

............and then there's summer, same scenery but all at 75 degrees, blue sky, and fresh air.

And filmmaking, filmmaking, and more filmmaking.

I don't like Rain, how did you get that impression? I LOVE rain :)

On top the doc say to stay away from direct sun light as much as possible, so I think that Vancouver will be great for that.

Lions Gate HQ is in Santa Monica, CA, but what I'm interested in is the Studios facility for production in Vancouver, as they cost of operation there will be much less then doing anything in CA, both for fees and for Labor.

Also as NOw Lions Gate, just like any major Film Studio is slashing down positions left and right, even so their success, they are in for Independent films that provide a low cost production, with a high chance of return, but mostly shot with a smaller crew and smaller and a quick turn around.

Well yes, I imagine the rain there to be magical, and I'm looking forward to that, if I still catch some.

I will definitely enjoy the views, I also Love the white purity of the snow grounds, and I enjoy particularly photographing such a snow covered landscapes especially when in High contrast with water land marks.

FilmMaking off course is one of the main attraction for me as well, after all they don't called the Hollywood North for nothing :)

But what I have heard no one say here (well actually write :) ) is about the Canadian Hot-ties :)

Ketch, there are two chains of restaurants here that you will want to check out. One is called 'Cactus Club' and the other is 'Earl's'. I really like their hiring criteria, you'll think you walked into a modelling agency.

Except it is like some bizarro world modelling agency where they are actually friendly even if you aren't rich, famous or can do something for their career.

The food is not too bad there either.

I am up north in the interior right now but might be back south when (if) you get into Vancouver in the beginning of March. I'll buy you lunch at an Earl's or Cactus Club if we are both there at the same time.

If it were for work, I'd move to Los Angeles or any number of other cities but the only places I've found so far were I'd go just to live there would be Vancouver or Florance.

Now if I were given the opportunity to found a city off the planet then I would be gone in a second... but here on earth, Vancouver is pretty nice.

Great to hear it Clint, then Lunch it is, then the next time around I'll be cooking at my new to be (I think) Vancouver Place :) BTW, I can really cook!!

Right now looking in to finishing up few projects here in Vegas and establish a good relation with the Casinos, so that I can get the assignments no matter were I'm, and thanks to this fantastic community, I have been able to make some great connections, and now have so many RED Owner operators, DOP's Editors, Gaffers, and the list goes on, were I can delegate any job form any were with the trust that everything will be handle well and professionally.

So My health coming first, and three movies and three novels to right, plus wanting to finally take a brake, and go out in Nature and photograph it like I always intend to, (some girls to off course) :) .

So asap as I get few things figure out, and find a small Loft or Work and leave loft, the I think Vancouver could become my new second home.

You may love the rain now... but months of cold wet darkness can be tougher than expected. It helps if you have an indoor hobby; if you're going to be writing most of the time, that will be a good distraction to get you through the winter dreariness. Be careful in the winter when you go outside, because the air is cold and moist coming off the ocean. It can be hard on the lungs unless you stay bundled up and drink hot liquids. The summers though, are usually pretty awesome and make up for the wet winters. The green in the foliage really pops when the sun comes out.

One other thing... if you start to get lazy or depressed during the dark periods, it's probably Seasonal Affective Disorder setting in. Try to find sunlight somewhere to fend it off; Vancouver Island might be your best bet. Also, get some Vitamin D3 into your diet (via pills or food) because you won't get enough direct sunlight to naturally produce the amount your body needs.

It's a fantastic area in general though. Different from desert land, that's for sure. Though if you do miss the desert, you can find one a day's drive away in Eastern Washington.

Thanks for your input Lowkus.

Well, I will fly frequently to Italy and few Tropical places for both work and pleasure thru out the year, and as I have so much Writing and Post- to do on Photography work for a major gallery soon to open up world wide, I think that I'll have plenty to do indoors, as well as I plan on dedicating some of the rainy and dark time to at list one Hottie :) or two

And you are right about the D3 supplements, and even so I'm in Vegas I'm already taking D3 Vitamins, I just seem to always end up indoors no matter what, probably because I really don't like the desert, yet I came to Vegas, go figure???

I've lived in Vancouver now for almost 2 years, and it will be almost impossible to get me to move anywhere else.

Hi there,

Here is a bit of Vancouver from my apartment balcony, this is looking NW towards the city from Burnaby about 20 minutes drive from the downtown core, as attached. If you are looking for a beach lifestyle away from the city, look at White Rock, Victoria, or for the really adventurous the Gulf Islands. Stay away from Earls, my Iphone was stolen there.

When some one says things like this then you know they are leaving in a beautiful place.

Beautiful!! Sorry about your iPhone.

Don't care too much to be near the beach, I prefer the green areas and mountains, but love the city scape view, even so I will most likely, in the event of moving to Vancouver, need to be on the first floor, in a Loft style place, were I can leave and work.

Vancouver is a wonderful place. Just wrapped up a feature release and will be doing some experimental work using our red for next feature.
Norm I should be back by 11th Mar

I guess they don't called the Hollywood North for nothing :)
