  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

v6.0.10 Beta

I tested out the tethering video. It seems to work great. You can press record on the camera, and it'll automatically trigger the Red Tether to start recording. The best compression setting I can get at 6K was 14:1. It does not record to both the RedMag and to Red Tether. I know, it can't go much better with the compression ratio because of the GigE speed limit.

I think a great option would be an offload option while not shooting: Use the RedMag as a buffer card, This allows you to record lower compressed R3Ds, transfer to red tether while not shooting then automatically remove shots from the RedMag Once transferred. I'd also like to have a backup option: Records to RedMags, but also dumps footage through Red Tether while not recording.

The one issue I ran into was that once I disconnected the Ethernet cable, the Stream icon was still present and I couldn't change the compression to be better than 14:1. Even restarting the camera kept it in stream mode. I had to go to presets to select red motion default to remove it. I had this same issue with going into stills mode in Presets. It would stay in stills mode even after I switched to another preset I used on my previous firmware. Although, I think it's probably because the older Presets I have probably doesn't have any flags to say what mode to be in (stills, motion or stream)

You can go into the menu settings for recording and change storage from network back to local. Would be nice if it automatically switched back when you disconnect from tether, perhaps by production build is released:-P
 
i was dreaming about actual thumbnail of a clip with the frame snapshot, but this is great too, maybe soon we even have delete clip option,
anyways, thank you RED! Great update!
 
Can anybody post a picture of the thumbnail view? I will not install this until its a release version.
 
Maybe in this version it's time to do this.

EJECT MEDIA should not be on the same page as FORMAT MEDIA.
I think more than a few times I have seen this leading to problems.

I know there is the two button thing on the body, but maybe a double tap on the SSD% icon to eject?

Looking good so far though.

Just noticed the "alternate front rotary"-preset is missing in this firmware.
 
Yeah, it'd be great to know what of the new features actually work with Scarlet-X/Epic-X/Scarlet-D/Epic-D... Did they add 4.5k for Scarlet-X?








(...I know, I know, I just have to ask... It's like my own inside joke.)

The behavior of the side handle has changed slightly. By default the front rotary now cycles through values of the selected slot on the side handle (which is set using the 1-4 keys). The selected slot on the side handle is now independent of the cursor on the LCD.

You've seen people:
- Accidentally hit the "Format..." button
- And then accidentally hit another "Format" button (with a warning how many clips will be erased)
- And then accidentally confirming again.
- with red text and red and black caution tape in some cases
Instead of hitting the "Eject" button?

If so, there is nothing we can do.

thats true. It's much improved with the three confirmations. I'm remembering a time before that.
