  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Doing some research and digging through the manual now for official information.

V-Raptor Power Consumption
- 60Wh at room temperature for 8K 24fps
- 75Wh max draw when in high ambient temperature, 8K, and 120fps.

This is actually great news and somewhat what I suspected on the first test shoot. Basically the same power draw as DSMC2 for 24fps and the beast gets hungrier when the gas pedal is pushed harder.

Here's the cliff notes for common battery densities:
- 98Wh = 1.5 hours to 1.25 hours
- 150Wh = 2.5 hours to 2 hours

* give or take because some batteries are like 140Wh or whatever in the fine print and of course charge, capacity, temp, etc.

** also give or take as you add accessories that draw power through the camera. Most notable is the potential max 18.3Wh draw from the DSMC3 RED Touch 7.0" LCD.

Reminder that V-Raptor uses Micro-V Type Batteries that must not be greater in width than 75mm. Here's a list of currently known and tested batteries from RED:

Full size V-Lock or G-Lock batteries are possible via battery plate adapters. Bonus there is the plates teased have more D-Tap ports and things for accessories.

V-Raptor XL appears to use full size V-Lock batteries and can likely take the tiny ones as well.

V-Raptor XL I suspect will have a slightly higher power draw, but nothing is known as of now.

Thx Phil, this is helpful. Also great news with the average power draw not as taxing as we initially assumed. Hoping my 140Wh Blue shape minis will still fit.

What’s the power draw like at lower resolutions? I’m holding out hope for a 6K dual iso version of the Raptor

Really strange design choice . We already had good stock of powerfull batteries and now is will be unusable ?
That's a teaspoon of shit for a cup of honey
Hey , Tilta , take our money and go to making adapter to normal sized batteries.

Red has a full size adapter, not available for sale yet tho.

...or maybe even 2 versions. A short adapter when using "production pack LITE" (w/o top plate) and a taller (advanced) battery adapter plate with pass through power for the
dunno-what's-tactical-about-it-top plate's power outputs. Coming soon for both, V- and G-Mount batteries. (a little more patience, please, it's all new...)

Would love to see an adapter that supported power input in addition to output. This would allow hot swapping and potentially reduce the ways in which one might fry a 12G SDI board... Yes, there would still be other risks - starting with cable failures - but I'd sure like to shorted that list if I can...

Fearful of the 12G Komodo stories myself. But for hotswapping, a nice D-tap to lemo power cable into the Raptor DC port usually does the trick.

Do AB Titon batteries have runtime communication with the body like the CoreSWX ones do?

if someone wouldn’t mind popping them on I’d be grateful.

Is anyone talking about this https://tilta.com/shop/battery-plate-for-red-v-raptor/ I want to use my 2 x150 WH PAGS piggy backing for my water/surf housing. As per image. Or do i have to purchase the V-RAPTOR TACTICAL TOP PLATE W/ BATTERY ADAPTER?????
Hopefully either one will allow the two batteries into the housing once I convert the housing to the Raptor from Epic Weapon.

So i ended up getting this https://www.came-tv.com/products/raptor-kit-for-red-v-raptor
and only used the top plate without the silly red grill (makes the air harder to pass thru plus would make the camera work harder, hence hotter) then had a technician slice off the front of the top plate so it would allow my Small HD LCD monitor to be connected. So if you look at the images attached here i have the top plate to connected to the V Mount at the back with a power cable running into the camera. So far so good. Its tight and my two 150 WH PAGS are working perfect. BUT with no communication. Apparently CAME TV only provide the power and no communication. So now i need to see if there is a V Mount plate I can screw into my Came Tv top plate that allows that communication? Maybe that CVP one or one from Blue Condor https://kondorblue.com/products/red-v-raptor-ultimate-rig

In the end i just want to use my full size PAG batteries - (they are actually the smallest batteries out there as I like 300 WH piggy backing in my water housing)
PAG tell me that they are coming out with PAG Mini batteries suited to the Raptor but not until later in the year so i need to get a new housing made that fit everything snug. Especially when my full size batteries are pretty new.
