  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

V-mount Battery Chart

Thanks.

I see that Switronix have V-mounts 85Wh even have A "TSA-friendly" sticker. Should be good for International also, shouldn´t they?

The Switronix Hypercore Slim RED 82WH seems to be ideal for nature and wildlife ...

Well I'm not totally sure about the international regulations but I do need to look into it. TSA is an agency of the United States and doesn't regulate anything international.

Hey Guys,

I'm a RED RAVEN owner with Base I/O V lock expander, I've got a couple of Switronix Hypercore Slims which are nice, however they only get about 1hr 20min of runtime, I was looking at higher capacity and longer runtimes so I bought 2 SWIT 8161S RED 190WH batteries which send the remaining runtime to the RED. Looking at the runtime I can now get approx 3hr 30min from these batteries. They are not the prettiest battery and are really bulky but glad to have the piece of mind on a shoot that I won't run out of batteries. Just thought I'd let the community know that they fit on DSMC2 and send the info through.

Thanks.

They are air travel safe for international as well.

My PowerU 150W V-mounts fit on the Raven, I added to the sheet but don't have the specs with me..great bang for buck

FYI received the Bebob 98s and have been testing them out. I get almost exactly 98 minutes of run time (60W power draw) from a Raven with the 4.7" monitor and v-mount expander attached. It's consistent whether shooting RAW, ProRes or RAW+ProRes.

I'm impressed by the Bebob's. Nice and small, lightweight. Great for the price.

Hi,

I'm planning to buy those as well. Do you mind sharing a pic so I can see how large they actually are on the Raven?

Do you use the Bebop VS2 for charging or a third party one?

Thanks in advance

A quick note on the MaxOak/Maxtar batteries.

The upsides:
- only $230 for 177wh on Amazon
- they show the % remaining in camera
- 4-led power remaining readout
- USB & P-Tap
- includes AC walwart for charging
- lasts 3.5 hours on one charge

The downside unfortunately, is rather significant:
- they sit loose on the v-mount expander, and even the slightest bump of the camera will terminate the connection

I picked up two and modified the casing so that they sit nice and snug now, however I still can't recommend these. I'm going to reserve to using them to power lights and my field monitor, or as a larger backup battery.

(Image borrowed from Dan Landoni in the other v-mount thread, so hopefully he doesnt mind)

I'm still rocking with my Power-U 190Wh when needed, outdoors.
3 Hours of power. 8.5 hours to fully charge. Power indicators on batter are not accurate, no time remaining indication on camera.

Most of my shooting has been indoors on DC power though.

I got these as well and they sit tight. I think you contact their CS and probably get a replacement

Abiodun, thanks for the heads up.

Curious though, do you have yours mounted on the Red V-Mount expander, Red Base Expander + V-Mount addon, or a 3rd party solution?

I'm trying to figure out which combination is the culprit, as not only do mine not seat firmly, but I've also read numerous people making a similar claim. Thanks!

Both on the V-lock I/O expander and on Wooden Camera Cable-less module. Infact my rental clients prefer it above the dynacore minis because of the long power life

Fast foward 2 weeks later, any slightest bump to any but ONLY one of the batteries, terminates the camera! Sadly I can't recommend anymore.

So, I contacted the company through their storefront on amazon and complained about the battery. Their response was quick and they stated that they do not advise/suggest their batteries for Red cameras and offered full refund on return of the units I purchased. However, since I stay in Lagos (Nigeria), thats just going to be too expensive, they offered to refund 50% and that I try to sell off the batteries (though, I doubt if anybody buys used batteries).

I watched a video on the Raven Facebook group with an individual that confirmed that the SWIT S-8192S 92 + 92Wh works fine on the DSMC2 V-lock i/o module. I think it's great news for people who fly a lot. as this is 184Wh battery in total and take less space then two 95Wh batteries.

Could someone please add it to the spreadsheet? not sure how to do it myself.

So... I know is a bit off topic but really important and battery related.

I recently traveled to NY to work on a project and took my RAVEN with me and had no problems with the batteries flying from MIAMI to NY. However on the way back they did not let me fly with my RED Bricks. TSA reps and manager in LGA were extremely rude and almost treated me like a criminal for trying to fly with them in my carryon and one in the camera. story was long but my question is how are you guys doing for traveling with batteries ? are you renting on location ? shipping them ? They mentioned that not even the ones under 100Wh are now allowed to travel if the contact points are not completely covered. However I think FAA and TSA information has not been updated with this information.

The link below says if airline approves them to fly and they are under 160Wh they should be ok...

Im just pissed I lost my batteries and trying to avoid future trouble traveling with my hard worked for gear.
Thanks in advance for the info!!!

Did you show them that FAA Chart? I carry one with me for that reason....but haven't been questioned yet. I think having TSA Pre-Check might help.

Thats really bad luck.
I recently travelled from Australia to US and was nervous about what the regulations were in the US. When I arrived in LA before I checked my bags into another flight I asked numerous officials including a TSA officer and non of them seemed to know what was or not allowed. So I flew with no problems but Scot Yount suggestion is very good of carrying that PDF chart. For me it was the uncertainty of will I turn up for a shoot with no batteries? You were unlucky in that you also had officers who may also may have been unaware of regulations but came down heavy on you!

Yeah, wish I knew about the issue with battery fitment on the back of the DSMC2 V-LOCK I/O EXPANDER. Before my Scarlet - W shipped I bought 2 Anton Bauer digital V90s - and they didn't fit! I went a week and a half before I was able to exchange one of the batteries for one that would fit. Cine 90.

I generally steer away from forums but, that experience is part of the reason I am now on Reduser. Knowledge is power.

I've updated the spreadsheet with the new Dynacore Mini 95W that Jarred mentioned in another thread, and cleaned up a few messy edits some people left behind. Have at 'er if you're looking for new batteries!

If you've bought any of these, feel free to add a comment with your experience, notes on whether they communicate run-time to your Red, etc.

For one, I don't recommend the Bebob batteries. They're the smallest by weight/volume except of the pricier PAGs, but I've had all four of them die on me over time. I don't think they can handle the power draw of a Red. I'd stay away if you have the option.
