Hi all....

Just a word to the wise about Globalmediapro Li160S Lithium ion Battery 160WH.As i stated in a previous post i wasn't sure whether the S series i ordered would work with my Scarlet or if i needed the R type.GMP got back onto me today and said that that the type i ordered wont work with the camera and that i should have ordered the R type.
They now refuse to take the batteries back even if i ship them back myself unopened and recommend that i sell them on at a reduced rate...so be warned.
Just as a matter of curiosity has anyone had success with the S series?
Also probably piddling against the wind since people on here will be looking for certain batteries but would any be interested in buying 3 unopened batteries?
Cost €200 each and will sell for €170 each....

Cheers...

Did they say why they wouldn't 'work'? Is it just a matter of communication between battery and body about charge level? I have a bunch of Vmounts that give a readout on Scarlet in %age of charge left - and a bunch that give a readout as #of Volts left.

I suppose that I get %age from the bats that 'Work' and Volts from the ones that don't. In the end both power the camera and do what they are mainly designed for...

If you are already swallowing a loss - charge one up and slap it on the cam, you may be pleasantly surprised.

Seems odd. What if you got the batteries and they were defective? Would you be able to return them then? That's some bushleague BS that they wouldn't accept returns of unopened items.

My bet is also that you'll only get voltage and not percent in the viewfinder. You can always hit the button on the side of the battery and see how many of the lights come on.
Cheers,
Sam

Yeah they told me they would be charged duty and VAT etc to take them back and that it would cost inn excess of €500????
Anyway i dont mind if i dont get the LCD readout,i'm just hoping the circuitry aint different and i dont damage the camera if i do open them and give one a try...
There Lithium batteries, they should work regardless with a Switronix V Mount right?

The "s" will work fine! As mentioned you will just get voltage and not percentage. But anybody running AB batts has to deal with this. You can get Batts with LCD screens but to be honest you can see by the voltage readout when to change them and once you get to know your batts you will know about how long they last etc.

Hey Adam,
Do you use the S series? As Christian mentioned there was a thread on this posted yesterday
http://www.reduser.net/forum/showth...th-Global-Media-Pro-batteries-not-powering-up
and Kyle Gentz posted the picture below.Seems like the mounting holes on the battery on the left are different and was the battery he was having problems with so the S series still seems dodgy! Guess i wont know till they arrive and attatch one to the Switronix V Mount.

Funny thing is the tech specifications on GMP's website for both batteries are exactly the same???

Mine just arrived. Interestingly enough there isn't a single reference to R Series on the batteries themselves. All there is is a red compatible sticker. The Mounting holes are the same as Kyle's good ones though. I'll upload some pics in a bit.

GMP's policy also states that even if they say their products are indeed compatible with something, it is not covered under their returns policy or warranty unless you bought the device you are using them on from them! Can you believe this? So this means ANY GMP battery is not guaranteed to even work etc unless you bought the camera or any other device to use it on from them! This is a FACT as i bought two GMP batteries for my F3 which they stated were compatible, and when i found they didn't work they expressed this very very clearly. After hefty negotiation i got an external cable to connect them for free...a $15 pain in the ass cable. Be warned...like everything in life you get what you pay for! This and the fact that using third party batts on your RED means it is not covered under warranty. I have a mixture of red bricks and volts...the third parties i sold off because of this. More so than any other third party...you really do get what you pay for with GMP...you will have far better recourse options through paypal and ebay!

Thanks Christian for the pictures upload.Am receiving mine this afternoon but havn't got my shipment notice for Scarlet yet even though i got allocated so cant test out till it arrives.
The mounting holes do seem to be different so will be interesting to see if they work...if they dont now i have the bother of trying to get them sold!
If i had of known this i would have chose Red brick from the start but you live and learn....

I got 6 globalmedia batteries yesterday (4 x 95 Wh for travel, and 2 x 160 Wh). I did not take the "Red compatible" product, because I don't care to have the % lost. But the Scarlett doesn't start with these batteries...
I send them an email, and I will try to return them for Red compatible one. We will see what happens.

Doesn't start? Are the batteries fully charged?

Juts got my GMP battery and charger back from china after they had failed. Shipping back to China was a pain and not cheap from Aus.
However they gave me a free single channel charger while I waited and have in all other respects been excellent when it comes to customer service.

I got 2x Axrtec batteries. 1 89wh and 1 130wh.

The 130 has a voltage readout on the screen, and the 89 just has a 0%. Pretty bizarre.
