Not sure if anyone has tried this gimmick before, but I have a VCR and would need to convert some footage from analogue to digital. Is there a way of feeding a video in to the camera? I don't think there is, but maybe I am missing a trick here.

:hand:

You could set up a tripod in front of the TV and film it with the Scarlet :yesnod:

Using a Scarlet would be overkill for this, but believe it or not I knew people that did digital-> film conversions using this same process. Just set the scarlet up in front of an LCD TV and let it run. On paper it looks as if you are doing the exact opposite, but however, in a way, you're doing the same thing. You're just transferring the data into a higher quality format. Keep in mind you'll be uprezzing from Standard Def to 4k, so it will look like crap at best. At worst, it will look like crap.

Epic or Scarlet may be too hi-rez for shooting a screen. The footage may show the actual matrix on the tv screen, depending on the type. Use an Alexa if you can. '-)

If you are gonna "film" the screen just make sure it's in a pitch black room with no glare or anything.

I'd advise against filming from a screen - that way you'd lose quality. Get a good quality A/V converter (Blackmagic makes nice ones, but there are plenty others) and do a proper transfer. Make sure that you use a properly calibrated VCR with clean heads.

Ha, ha, ha! Love your answers guys. I just want to use my Scarlet to everything... well maybe not. I think I'll use my Blackmagic Multibridge, recording from the screen might look crap, as someone else said here.

The look of shooting a plasma screen is great. Done it a few times to get that... video look for certain shots in commercials. It's strange the glow from the plasma pixels actually looks a bit like a film print copy. So I would give it a try. Please post the result if you do.

make sure you have some clothes on when you tape your screen.
