  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Useful super cheap handle...

My MacBook Pro was made in China ...

My original R1 handle broke too, exactly the same way, except I didn't notice it until the middle of a shoot. Shooting with an easyrig, the handle felt loose, I unmounted the camera from the easyrig and noticed a big crack around both screw holes in the R1 handle. Crazy! Ended up finishing the shoot with some straps mounted to the 19mm top rails, never trusted the handle R1 handle again without the R1 extension.

I ordered a some of these handles recently, they're smaller than I thought they'd be, about 3" long by 1" thick, but they screw together end to end so you can make them as long as you want, and don't take up any space in my parts bag. Too cheap not to get, I bought 4 just to have around. I've found I've been using them all the time to just have a handle where ever. Been using two with almost every camera setup since I got them.

Thought this might be useful to anyone on a budget, or even not on a budget. Just useful.

Pete, nice link.

But one thing that's not clear to me is how you attach these to the camera.

Don't you need some sort of 90 degree attachment???

Yes this discussion makes me wonder... If I rig up the epic with the biggest lens we got and all the modules monitors FF and such. The camera is then quite huge and heavy. So then if I lift it in the red tophandle that is mounted onto a nato rail that sits on the main body. there is quite a bit of strain going right onto the camera. Also the red top handle is not in balance it's more like it tries to bend the nato rails of the camera in a way that I think is a bit more stress than I would like to put onto two little screws holding the natorail.

Basically this whole modularity makes it possible to build up cameras in ways so that something will give in the handle or the mounts inbetween modules.

I think red will need to add some rod mounts for the modules in the end for the times when you put many modules onto the camera. As just hooking one to the next is only good for like 2 or 3 I think.
