Hi there!

I have a small budget feature film shoot on Epic starting in about 2 weeks time, and I am getting the Manfrotto head and tripod for the shoot.

Can anyone suggest what I should get to mount this on the tripod ?
I currently have the old red bridge plate from my previous RedOne, but I can't mount this on the tripod.. is it the dovetail that is needed ?

Need to make the purchase asap to make this in time for my shoot. Can anyone explain about the options that I have to do this?
Thanks a lot!

you need to screw the dovetail to QR plate of the manfrotto head

Hi Asif, so I need to get the dovetail from Red?

And the dovetail can slide into my Red Bridge plate right?

Exactly.

The dovetail is industry standard, you can buy from various other vendors. I bought mine from RED.

Can't you just mount the Manfrotto plate to the bottom of the Epic, slide it on to the head and lock it? Or, you can get a quick release system form RED (bolt-on or dovetail), or from Kessler or others, if you want quick release capability.

The 509 head comes with a plate that can be bolted to the Epic. If you want a lightweight solution get the SKU#: 790-0224 modular assault plate which also takes 15mm rods or the lightweight production pack.

Yes I can mount the Epic directly on the Manfrotto, but I need to use the rods for mattebox and follow focus, so I will need to use my bridge plate too. But the Dovetail from Red, it doesn't have a lock on it, is it stable enough?

I have this exact tripod. Buy the WC bottom plate with 15mm bracket. Bolt that to the body, then the tripod quick release plate to the bottom of the WC plate. (It has mounting points on the bottom). This has worked like a charm for me for over a year now.

EDIT- if you only have 19mm gear, then you'll need to go the dovetail route. WC's dovetail accessories are cheap and good quality. Just mount the tripod plate to the bottom of the dovetail.

Thanks for the feedback!
I just bought myself the Red Dovetail..hope it's the right choice !
