Good news... We will resume the shipping of RAID DRIVES (limited quantities) late next week. They will be subject to standard backorder fulfillment procedures - fulfilled in order of camera delivery date.

Thanks for your patience with this, everyone,

BC

RED DRIVE = RAID DRIVE? Is this the same as the RED RAID now, or does that product name still refer to the axed uncompressed option? Just trying to figure out what to call these drives... :)

Will the Red drives be taking a step up in capacity any time soon? 320GB drives are near the same price as what the 160GB drives were going for back when the Red drive was first released.

Yes, i think so too. But will that de-valuate earlier RED customer investment even we know for the fact drive is getting cheaper and cheaper ?

that comes with the territory of technology doesn't it?

I can't imagine anyone wanting a single drive that holds more than 2 hours of footage (for reliability issues if nothing else). I'd imagine we'd see a price drop before a capacity increase.

Put aside pricing issue. I believe the new Drive now is more reliable, that's what most important

larger raids are more reliable. If your footage fills only 1/2 your large raid capacity vs. nearly all of it on your smaller raid, then that larger raid is more stable. You never want to fill up your drives if you can help it.

That may be true, but I try to dump off my drives long before I get 2 hours of footage on them. Just in case, though I haven't had any problems with my Red drives (Red Raid). Of course technology-wise, I don't see any downside to larger drives.

As drives get bigger and faster, I would like to see a Raid 1 drive. And larger drives will certainly be an advantage when Redcode 100 comes out with Epic.

The fact that any of this is possible versus film and tape kicks ass; what a wonderful world we live in! I have been editing since 1989, and am VERY happy to say goodbye to traditional tape, though I use SDLT for long-term backup. At least everything is saved as files.

With the extended delay / back-order, were there any improvements made to the drives? Updated firmware, etc?? ...Just curious.
