I'm having trouble deciding on glass and hoping for some advice, i realise it's been asked a hundred times but here me out...

I'm looking to purchase an Ultra wide lens for my Dragon. I will be shooting landscapes (Sunrise/sets) so wider the better, which also means Full frame glass will help

Most of my shots will be fixed focus on infinity so breathing isn't a huge issue. Im also not too concerned about colour matching with other glass

What i do want is the best quality image possible, glass that will produce amazing colours, preferably EF mount but PL is ok

I was thinking i could use still glass as focusing etc not priority. Possibly the Canon 14mm 2.8 or the Zeiss 15mm ZE 2.8 (but i need to use with a Matte box and don't like the look of the hood)

Looking at Cine glass i have been considering the Canon CN 14mm, Zeiss 15mm CP2 or the Xenon 18mm once released ... But i'm thinking these glass aren't going to give me any better image quality than the stills glass?

Any other suggestions? Something under 12k would be nice but if you know of a more expensive Ultra wide please let me know

Thanks for any suggestions you may have...

Owen

Zeiss 15mm is a Stunner. Save money and get the ZE/ZF version.

Hi Erich, yes i've heard amazing things about it... Im just concerned about the hood. Have you used it with a Matte Box? I considered cutting it off but bit scary....

After researching further I've decided on the zeiss 15mm 2.8
unless I bought a larger matte box I couldn't use it anyway.. Thanks

Canon 16-35 f4 zoom. Stands up well to anything in its range including zeiss 15 and canon 17 tse. It is full frame, has a really good IS and is only $1200.
I have it and the 14mm CN E, as a pair they match up well and give you a lot of flexibility, but the 16-35 alone is a an amazing lens.

I haven't used it much but I wouldn't of thought the 16-36 would compete with the zeiss 15

All things taken into consideration, price, performance, weight, flexibility, IS. I think it is a rival if not a perfect alternative

Owen, if you opt for the Zeiss 15mm, consider going the CP.2 route, as the price difference is lower than other ZE/ZF.2 vs CP.2 versions

and I think the CP.2 version is the one to get considering the focus ring expansion, better build quality, EF/PL mount,

its optical unit checked and calibrated in Germany (very important in a Wide Angle!)!

Plus the 114mm front that gives you clamping capability and protection for the front element...my 2c!

Ive considered cp2s a lot but reading the Canon CN are a much nicer glass.. But I'm not liking the 3.1 of the 14mm, even though it wouldn't bother me for 80% of my shots.

i basically change my mind 5 times a day, every wide has it's positives and negatives...
