  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Two informative reviews (possibly from the same shoot)

I just think people should not write about what they don't understand.

Even being generous, that would probably eliminate 50% of all internet posts...

It's not like the guy tried to pass himself off as an expert on the subject of RED. People like that post their experiences partly in order to have certain things explained to them so they know better in the future.

It would eliminate 99% of mine.

This whole education/skill issue could be resolved with a well constructed free DVD explaining the camera, theory, operation, post, etc. Yes, it would take time, resources... to create, but it would help everyone with the transition.

The cinematographer.com article criticism was basically decent. It'll only make the camera better, because we all know the Jannard team doesn't stop improving things. So keep delivering ideas for improvements.

What doesn't kill us, only makes us stronger.

Typical film load is 10-11 minutes, maybe closer to 14 if you shoot 3-perf -- 5 minute loads are only used on Steadicam and handheld shots usually. I would would find shooting a whole movie on 4-minute loads annoying and it's silly to to start making excuses for that limitation after years of digital being touted as being superior to film partially because of the longer record times!

Just a curiosity. In Brazil, 1000 ft magazines are not extremely easy to find for rent. Even the best rental houses sometimes only work with 400 ft mags, except, probably the Panavision rep and some other extremely high profile house I'm unaware. That's probably because of the lack of TV productions shot on film, and the vast majority of work being in the realm of advertisement.

Nonetheless, 4 minute loads are undoubtedly a pain.

Cheers!
