The AllSteady 7 from Turbo Ace has been officially released, challenging the new Ronin in all aspects of functions and features. It can carry camera/gear up to 20 pounds, balance a camera in seconds, and support a heavy camera to prevent it from bouncing. The AllSteady is also designed to be tune-free, which surpasses auto-tune since users no longer have to wait for the controller to figure out the settings. When you are on set, equipment downtime needs to be minimized. Turbo Ace incorporates a Macro/Micro proprietary balancing system that ensures your gimbal is ready when you are. Looks good but I have to coment to a few things here shown on this video presentation that do not apply in real world.

Adding disc weights right in the centre of the axis making the Epic camera 20 lbs, is way different than handling a real camera that is 20 lbs.

Because you have to be able to handle this weight at its natural physical size.

So for example if you put a heavy lens on the camera will distribute the total weight in more length and the inertial forces will be way greater than handling small diameter discs around the centre of Gravity.

So its not only weight you need to show is dimensional weight distribution as well.

Just an observation here , it all looks cool and it sounds good .

And another thing.... this challenging thing, has to stop ....sooner or later, this is not a car race...

kind regards

Constantine

Looks cool. However, I agree with Constantine that placing weights at the centre is not the same as distributed weight in form of mattebox, follow focus etc. It is the same load x load arm principle. Price wise it appears to sit between the Ronin and Lexus. Look forward to some independent reviews.

To echo others... Why do you have to start with "To challenge..."? Just let it stand on its own merits. Say what they are are leave it at that. You are hurting your own cause when you start with the comparisons. :-(

Agreed, the "challenge" is a bit too competitive but I can't change the title after it has been posted. I apologize for that. We all know there is a war going on with the gimbals since they all do very similar tasks but they do them very differently. Compare the AllSteady 7 video to the Ronin video by focusing on the edges of the screen https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jORrhPhqkV4
Mostly the shaking issue on all 3-axis and some jerking on the follow mode at time frame :08, :45, 1:10, 1:23, 1:31, 2:28, 2:42, 2:56, 3:09, 3:33, 3:47, 4:03, 4:20, 5:14, 5:30, 6:14, 6:20, 6:28 and 7:26. The edge reference technique will help the consumers on what to look for.

Center of gravity for 20 pounds payload

Center of gravity for 20 pounds payload

I agree the center of gravity will be a bit different. The weight disc were used because with all the difference gears out there, there is no way for the audience to tell the actual total weight. I can assure you the AllSteady easily handles a shift in center of gravity without any problem. The Alexmos stabilizing controller has been field tested for many years.

Ed, now just bring the price point down to Ronin level and you're set :)

Price is dropped down to $3595 already and you get a free water proof case when it comes in 1-2 months. The AllSteady material cost is very high and it is in a separate class from the Ronin.

I see, from your link, it shows the package with the case at $3999.00. What's the difference between the Allsteady-7 and the Allsteady-7 Extreme? Are these shipping now?

If "challenge" s too competitive, "war" is better? LOL Sure, there are a few products competing for market share. It just seems too antagonistic to characterize it as a war since that involves people. The products are all good, the problem has arisen with the way people promote theirs and bash others. Maybe don't fall into that trap.

Hope we can se a mirror test soon on this to.

whats the weight of the rig without a camera? For me, at 9 pounds without a camera, the Ronin is way to heavy. The movi m-10 is 3.5 pounds. No official word on the dry weight of the M15.

I almost jumped on board with this when it was starting out as a Kickstarter project, but when I saw it at NAB I was disappointed and didn't feel it was ready for market. However, it looks like it's come a long way since then with a lot of improvements. Congratulations and best of luck with this Ed.

There is only one model of AllSteady 7. It starts at $3599 with the basic accessories.

The M-10 is a much smaller gimbal so it won't be a fair comparison. Gimbals for the Red are usually heavier otherwise it will easily flex. The important point is, not just look at the weight. it has to be structurally sound. The AllSteady 7 is a lot stronger than its Red rivals but due to the integration of carbon components, it is a bit lighter at 7.7 lb plus 0.8 lb for the battery. It can not be much lighter without sacrificing its structure.

This almost sounds like you are suggesting that the M10 is not suitable for using a RED. "Smaller" is also the wrong word to use here. It may be smaller in the ways that make it lighter, but all these gimbals in question are in the same payload class. They all fly REDs. Being lighter does not make a gimbal weaker…

Austin - what he is referring to is that fact that the M10 was never meant for the RED to begin with. That is what the M15 and M20 were meant to be for. But somewhere along the way it's specs were bumped to "M12" so it does handle (a very limited) configurations of RED - and even then you are pushing its limits and you can feel that. There is no leeway...

Have to say it seems like a lot of jealous posts lol. If this proves to be what they set out for and more. It's just GREAT! I waited for a long time for one that was able to go past 17-18lbs and when it was announced. I immediately joined the kickstarter. That it's now 20lbs. Is just a bonus. I for one can't wait to try it out and see if it is "all that". Really looking forward and I'm thrilled you're finishing up and managed to get it out.
