Mike

(not me, but been close!)

today i was a little worried about leaving my camera in the car...then i thought "but dude mike takes his in frickin volcanoes"...

That is perhaps taking target fixation a little too far.

Okay, if we want to elaborate on it, it can go in both favor and very much in Disfavor of the Photographer...

In Favor: To admire the Perseverance to get the shot, while He and his gear are literally catching fire!

In Disfavor (not even sure it is an actual word): The fact that if I knew I was to take such a shot in such a place I would sure have both dressed more appropriately and I would most certainly had not chose a pair of Plastic Sticks!

But then again, He could have happen to just pas by and decided to take a shot even so it was not prepped for? Or He chose the plastic sticks and said what the hell, even if the do catch fire, which I know they will, who cares, they are a pair of cheap plastic sticks...

Still I would not had a pair of Tennis shoes on... Nonetheless, I admire both his Courage and Perseverance to get the Job done and get his SHOT!!

I know I have done lot worst more then once... Risk taking wise... So good on him.

If this was shopped, it was done by a hell of an Evangelist, as I can't spot a defect on it, and even the shadows and fire reflections are perfectly matched every were... But I guess in this day and age all is possible with time and... Perseverance... ;)
;-)

Next time someone asks the temperature of your lights, show them this and say; "hot"

If you can't handle the heat get out of the volcano!

That's my motto.

And no it wasn't shopped!

Hey he's wearing long trousers - so he did prepare, a little.

And using disposable equipment is a Good Idea in this line of work. The acid gases wreck lenses, especially; couple of years ago I destroyed a Nikon 14-24mm on one shoot. The rule of thumb is, if you need a gas mask to work, your lenses won't be good for much afterwards...

And no it wasn't shopped!

You sure about that? Because if it's for real, he's a prime nominee for world-class-dumbass due to his footwear selection. I understand disposable and all that, but man, I wear out Asics running shoes within a month or two of casual use. They don't even hold up as "running" shoes in most real world senses. I guess that's why I quit buying them. Or maybe it's because I melted a pair of them while camping and I wasn't even that close to the fire. I'd almost rather walk out there in flip-flops. At least when they start to melt, there would be less material trying to fuse to my foot...

Raising the dead just to confirm that, while it wasn't shopped, it wasn't… entirely natural either. It was deliberate, staged, and he used lighter fluid to enhance the flames...

Still a nutter :-)
