  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Trost Slider GROUP BUY - limited time

we need something like this:

We're looking at the best way to do Mitchell. Very interested to hear your thoughts/wishlist here.

Evin, that Manfrotto bowl adapter is a great idea. I'm sort of smacking my forehead that we haven't been recommending this to people. Does anyone know if it will accept a variety of 3/8 bolt lengths?

I just ordered one, but a lower solution would be ideal.

Whats surprising about that little Manfrotto 325N, is that they don't advertise the different 3 different threads that come with it including the M10 that Sachtler, Miller, Cartoni use. I obviously haven't tried a bunch of lengths but it works with the Manfrotto and Miller head I have.

Gabe, this is the Hi-hat I want to adapt...

My plan is to remove the black base and use a hole saw to cut a hole from the bottom of the aluminum plate that matches the diameter of the receiver puck on top of the slider, then mount one of your clamps above to secure it. This way the head is as close to the axis of slide as possible.

No kidding - that's even better then. I just ordered one so we can try some different heads over here.

Ok, good to know. The tricky thing with making the bowl adapter low-profile is that the bolts/tiedowns on these ball heads are often really long.

Ideally our clamp would be integrated into the bottom of the aluminum plate. That way, you could just drop the whole thing over our puck and lock it in place with the clamp.

Let me know if you move forward with your scheme for modifying this one and need an extra clamp from us.

I thought you guys have one? I thought I saw Sara in one of your videos with one.

Good grief, you're right. It's in our own product video. Jed set up the gear on that shoot, and it looks like he was a couple steps ahead of me. I need to hand in my badge and have him get on here to talk about this stuff.

Thanks, that would be great! I'll e-mail you. Of course having the clamp integrated into the bottom plate is the ideal solution. What is the exact diameter of the puck?

Did I miss something..what is version II ...is this just refering to adding of motors for shots ?

Ha ha. Josh is just joshing you because he missed out on the group buy. He's probably hoping there is improvements to future designs as he waits for Trost to get out of backorder.

Hi everyone!

Great looking slider. It being robust with very little bend is crucial. I've been following this thread for awhile and it looks like a great slider!

Can you tilt up and down whilst sliding without the slider breaking (stopping) due to weight distribution?

Gab, when do you think we'll be able to purchase one of these? Or perhaps another group buy? Seems like there would be enough of us.
Did anyone from the UK happen to get in on the group buy? Would love to test one.

Thoughts on the 100mm & Mitchel bowl adapters:
If it is clamped on with the collar then this would probably mean that we would not be able to undersling it.
Not a problem, it would just limit it to flat based fluid heads.
Having said that, I think the collar system would be the best option for regular setups.

Absolutely, it is a true bearing slider not a glider. I have a $4K 8ball slider which is a full size mitchell based unit and the Trost is every bit as smooth. So far lighter setups work OK on just one collar but anything over 20lbs will require two supports, the rail does not flex but there can be some shifting in the collar mount.

Hi Evan,

Good to know.
I look forward to when I can get hold of one.

It's 2.356".

We'll probably have a small quantity back in stock toward the end of Mar. A few weeks after that, we hope to have a larger quantity built up so we can re-open orders.

Thanks for your ideas on bowl/Mitchell adapters. The Manfrotto that Evin is using is pretty great - I'm wondering if we should try to improve on it.

Evin, I'm definitely feeling the high-hat idea with integrated collar. I was actually thinking of calling up Giro at Modern Grip to see if he'd fab something up with a bolt provision matching the collars.

Gabe, I think a future option would be to make the sliding base a mitchell plate (natively) and then make a mitchell to puck adapter that allows you to still add the 2nd axis.
