Hello all -

I'm looking to take my Secced Reach Plus 3 tripod with me when I travel abroad, but currently only have a soft case.

I see they offer one here: https://secced.info/products/barrel-case-small

However, I'm curious to find out if anyone else has found other cases to be more effective (both cost and protection-wise!) for their tripods?

I use a kitesurfing golf bag- that way I can get some xtra gear in there and keep tripod in its soft bag. No extra charges

I travel solo a lot. I long ago gave up on hard tripod cases. I now carry on board-Cam, lenses, batts, media, computer, and other must need items in an international sized roller with a good sized camera bag on top. I use this- for fluid head, tripod, small slider, a midikeyboard and speakers. I wrap my clothes to protect the gear. The great thing about this bag it is well built, light weight and has a really comfortable backpack harness and comes in under the 62" LWD maximum size for airline travel.

Best combination I ever had was the OConnor SKB hardshell case combined with their soft shell case inside. That withstood everything. B&H has the SKB hardshell cases.

Awesome Mark - thank you for this!

It looks good, but I'm really trying to avoid soft cases for those moments when they say, "You can't board with that," or, "We've run out of overhead bin space" :/

Sorry, I see It was a bit confusing . I check the tripod soft case, not carry on board. 62" LWD is for a checked piece. Packed with clothes on the more fragile bits, I have never had any damage. Hard cases have never been worth the hassle when traveling alone.

NalPak TuffPak series.

Comes in many sizes will protect you tripod and just about any gear you put in there. If you buy over size a little you can stack things in on top of your tripod. With in reason and or you can put lightstands or other longer items in there also.
I’ve had 2 over the years and the only reason you get rid of them.... oh that’s right you don’t. Unless you change tripods and then you get one for the new tripod.
No hinges to break or get tore off nothing but a strap and if for some crazy reason they break that there is enough over lap when you slide the cap on you could just tape it until you could get the strap replaced.
30 years of using these on rentals and my personal 2 and I’ve only replaced a strap Once due to it just wore through after years of use.
Just check what the big rental houses use.. it these.

SKB showed several new sizes (taller and wider) of their tripod cases at recent PhotoPlus Expo in NYC.

i use this one.

its great and can fit c stands too if you're looking to travel with a couple. if you're flying with a super expensive fluid head i would suggest getting a separate peli for the head.

make sure you have all your stuff insured before you fly. airlines are super rough with gear

Same one I use. I add padding if I'm traveling with it. You can also toss in an Indura Hi-Hat if you place it "at the feet" of the main tripod. I do this for both my 100mm and Mitchell kits.

+1 here as well. It's great for travel and fits my travel sticks kit nicely. I've fit 2xtripod + 1-2 small kit stands in there. Takes some finagling but it works. Only thing to note about HPRC cases is after every trip I check all hinges -- the metal posts used for the clamps and hinges sometimes begin to slide out ever so slightly after it takes an airline beating. Just one or two knocks with a screwdriver gets them back into place and seated nicely. Had mine for years with no issues.
