I had a very good experience working with the regular (if that word applies) T-tuned Blackwing set last year, excited to see what they come up with on this and future projects.
In theory I like the concept of tunable lenses, though in practice I haven’t actually done anything with it outside of filtration in front of the lens. These (and Arri Signatures, Optimo Primes, etc.) require intervention from a lens tech—perhaps standardizing or making more accessible the kind of work that people like Dan Sasaki at Panavision have made available on a more limited basis.
There are also the behind-the-lens tuners, which look pretty interesting. My hesitation there is just the profusion of mounts—how many EF/G/PL mounts do I need to own? And that profusion, the need to change out cages or find new methods of stabilizing a lens. (Fortunately, the locking mounts on the Komodo X and Raptor ameliorate that problem…)
Still—it’s more options and more democratization of technology…
