When the moment arrives for trading our RED ONES,
Will the trade be the same for OLD R1 and for RER ONE MX?

MX cameras are significanlty more expensive, will the trade for EPIC be the same? I think it's a bit unfair.

EPIC IS HERE!!! It'll be the best digital camera ever. Can't wait to shoot
with it.

You get a further rebate for trading in an MX upgraded camera.

Believe me, it is so much more than fair it's unbelievable!

Take a 3 year old Sony to their front door and ask what they will do for you!

Are you sure about this Jim?

I have not heard anything to suggest that.

:willy_nilly: I was until you said that!

Better go back and recheck my facts.

I would be happy with the same trade in amount ...

plus a trip to Cairns. :thumbup1:

In all seriousness, I am hoping for some sort of financial incentive for Stage 3.5 owners (like myself) to hold on to their Red One cameras. Unfortunately, the best response I have had on that front so far was from Jim himself (Questions ... Answers thread). He said "Under Consideration"

Yep, here it is. Looks like stage 1 or 2.

http://reduser.net/forum/showthread.php?t=39816&highlight=mx+upgrade

Customers that upgrade their cameras and decide to enter STAGE 1 or STAGE 2 of the epic program will receive a credit back of $1250 at the time they enter either of those 2 stages.

Only Stage 1 involves trading your camera in. Those would be the very select handful of tattoo recipients.

Stage 2 involves keeping your R1 camera.

I believe Jon is asking about stage 3 and 3.5, where you actually trade your camera in for a $17,500 credit.

Heh, yeah, that's the place to go, I've spent some good times underwater there!

Yeah, the stages can be hard.

I don't envy Red Management for trying to keep all 8,000 of us happy as someone will always feel screwed, even though they are bending over backwards and opened their wallet to us again and again.

All I can say is they have made me ecstatic and never disappointed me once.

Ah yes, got it.

I think Stage 2 was the best move, and am glad I signed up for it.

Are you saying that it wasn't made clear at the time, or just that you don't agree and they should give people more free stuff because they got the MX and aren't keeping it?

I would have thought the MX upgrade would have more than paid for itself by now.

Stage 2 was the best deal. Happy I chose it, just hope Red will make those Epics fast, they have many to make....would be interesting to know how many people went for stage 2 and how many went for stage 3

Just so you guys get this right ;)

Stage 1, was set to be originally the Tattoo program, so you keep your R1 and pay the full 28k for the Brain,
but this could have changed entirely, stage II is for us, and we keep our R1, stage 3 you trade the R1 with or without MX upgrade,
and get 17.5k credit, you get the Epic-X Brain plus all accessories listed for stage 3, same as Stage 2, only a smaller Touchscreen LCD, 2.8" vs. 5",
stage 3.5 you trade your R1 with or without MX for the same 17.5k credit towards the Epic-X Brain, no accessories included here.

Off course you still need to pay for all remaining balance accordingly ;)

The $1,250 credit is only for those in Stage II, if they have done the MX upgrade prior to have the Epic-X Kit delivered.

Looks like Hook and Hardy reef to me off Whitsunday Islands..long way from Cairns :001_tt2:

I just picked the nicest picture I could find of the Barrier Reef.

You're kidding right? I can't think of any other camera manufacture that I have bought from that has allowed the owner to return in their camera for 100% of the original value. Even with the added $5,750 for the upgrade that brings the total to $23,250, which would make the trade-in worth 75% of the total paid value. Which is still unheard of. And this is leaving out the fact that if you are going to buy a MX Red new today it is going to cost you $25,000. So you have already saved an additional $1,750 by buying early. I honestly do not get what is unfair about any of that? Red has, and continues to go above and beyond other companies in how they treat and deal with their customers.

Sony accepts trade-ins of their old cameras or competitors cameras. As does Panasonic.

Just ordered a Panasonic 3700 (Wish it could have been EPIC) and got a HUGE trade-in allowance for a Sony D30 camera head.

Still wish it could have been an Epic..., or 10 Scarlets...

Yeah, I'm familiar with the cross-grades and offers to lure buyers.
As far as I'm concerned, they're just gimmick-based discounts.

That's not to say everyone shouldn't take advantage of the offers, just that what Red is doing is truly unique.

100% rebate, a discount and first dibs on an EPIC.

Amazing!

Thanks guys,

I was talking about Stage 3. In wich you trade for the EPIC, sending your camera to RED.

I'm not saying that trading for our cameras is unfair. I think RED's policy about trading the cameras is great and better than any other company, and I love them for the kind of courage and forward-thinking on their strategies.

I was only asking if there wil be a different trade for R1 and R1 MX.
I't just mathematics. Trading for a 25000 $ camera should be different
than for a 17.500 $ one. (applying RED store princing).

Yeah RED already said that it is your choice to upgrade to MX a cameras slated for stage III trade in program, but the amount of credit you would get is the same..17.5k ;)

The MX upgrade is a must IMO, if you do have a way to put the camera to work,, and see that you might actual pay not only for the MX upgrade in the time it takes for you to do the trade, but might as well actually bring in more income that can go towards actual pay off of the upgrade it self.

Yah guys, in theory they "should" offer more in trade value for those
who have done the MX upgrade -- but the fact that they are already
being so generous with the upgrade value (this would be like Canon
giving me $2000 credit toward the next 5D) ... means we can't
complain.

Also, the MX upgrade really is amazing enough that those who do it
shouldn't have a tough time making up the cost in added fees/rentals
for the time period until they need to give it up for the Epic.

So as Ketch said, if you can break even or better on an upgrade --
go for it. Well worth the money. If not, then just wait for the Epic
and receive the very generous $17,500 credit toward the world's
best camera :-)
