Anybody have a stellar way to mount both the top handle and the 5" touchscreen LCD at the same time?

With the setup we have, there doesn't seem to be a way to have both, unless we're missing pieces.

Here's a shot of it:

We're thinking of the FMJ top plate, mounting the top handle on the front and the LCD on the back. Thoughts? Suggestions?

Thank you!

I'm a big fan of the Wooden Camera Easy Plate and easy stick - see them here:

OR you could flip the handle 180 degrees on the Nato Rail so that the handle is facing forward and thereby balanced to the lens/camera combo - then use a Red or Wooden Camera universal rod mount to attach the monitor to - it would slip on and off the rails easily.

Or you could go the ghetto route (I've done it, come on now) using a Red Arm or Noga Arm off the handle 1/4-20's to attach the monitor and articulate it more.

Hi Dude! Here's my setup...
the 5" touch screen just sit on there once I don't need to use the EVF, normally I will setup with smallHD and Bomb evf for shooting...

Dsmc mount + Top handle (Tailor Made)
Top Body Mount (Tailor Made)
Riser (Tailor Made)
Small HD DP6 (On Board Monitor)
BOMB EVF
SpaceCam Video Break Out Adapter
Red Pro Mattebox
Red 17 - 50mm
Battery Plate & Bebbo ML-120 ((Tailor Made Adjustable)

Hi James, turn the handle around 180 degrees so it faces out towards the lens, that' s what I did, if the camera has a lens, matte box and follow focus attached thiscwill provide the best balance.

Then you put your lcd on one of them dsmc universal mounts and slide it on those top rails.

I often configure the FMJ top mount with the LCD right to the front (Turned 180 degrees so the mount leans forwards) and a swat rail running lengthways along one side at the top so I can attach the handle at 90 degrees to the normal position. I also keep a swat rail on the left edge of the top mount, so I can easily switch the 'sideways' top handle to be a left-hand outrigger to work with the integrated side handle.

All useful configs I find handy :)

Hi Perry!

What is that breakout box on the dumb side? WHo makes that?

For a way slimmed down approach, the Red One Top Handle and monitor can be mounted together with slightly longer screws. The recess in the touchscreen mounting area allows the old top handle to sit in there nicely.

I don't find any of these solutions elegant. I know it's stupid, but I need to have a good looking camera and the mount of the LCD makes everything harder.
I will personnally go for the Wooden Camera Side Handle, on the right side with the LCD mounted on it.

But I won't use the Red Side Handle on a daily basis.

Do you like having the monitor further forward as opposed to having it towards the back of the camera?
i do as it for the moment is acting as the eypiece...once i have bothe the evf and a monitor simultaneously working i wont care where my asst puts the monitor.

I'm working on something. Kind of a combo cheese handle / ultralight style ball mount handle that should allow multiple methods to have both handle and LCD/EVF mount. This is just the first (hardest) step - made about 75 pieces. Will be partially drilled out for weight and have a series of 1/4 - 20 mount holes spaced all around the handle as well. Any design suggestions would be welcomed as the design for mounting to the epic and the mount holes, flats etc. haven't been finalized. We have our own CNC machining center so should be able to make it competively priced.

Email me if you are interested or have some suggestions. It is already knurled for good grip, but is also standard 7/8" inch diameter so any bicycle/BMX type grip can be used.

How did you get the rosette end off your top handle. Does it just screw off? I can't get my rosette base off to give my monitor mount clearance.
