  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

So the Canon EF 70-200mm 2.8 IS II is scary sharp on the Epic!!

Quick question here. I am trying out the SmallHD DP6 on the Epic via HDSDI. Works great, but when I hit the 1:1 zoom button, it does not seem to zoom in as far as the Red LCD touchscreen. Anyone know why?

I'm also noticing that as I pan, the image on the DP6 seems to break up. Any idea why?

the 1:1 on the red lcd is your full res image, 1:1 on the dp6 it's going to full res based on the input, which is HD (hence HDSDI)

and you may be experiencing some kind of lag with the other monitor, but it's hard to be sure. could be on either end.

I can see a slight lag on the monitor when I zoom in and out. when I pan, the image sort of falls apart, though. it breaks up near the top of the frame. i dont remember seeing this on the Marshall 8"

i'm not an expert, so i don't have any solutions, only things to think about. it could be the cable... test another one. it could be something internally wrong with the monitor, or it could be something on epic's end. it seems like the data, for whatever reason, is having some trouble getting passed along. there could even be some compression issues going on. that's about all i got, maybe somebody else can follow up that knows more than i do.

in the meantime, it couldn't hurt to contact both red and the manufacturer. they may or may not be able to recreate the issue, which could be telling. (or they may know exactly what that is!)

Tom how are you powering now? Is that AB? because that apparatus looks like it weighs a ton versus the Quad module with Red VOLTS :)

V-Lock plus IDX plate, speedy clamp and 19mm cf rods on a Wooden Camera sliding cheese with jeep. I'm still keeping an eye on developments and weighing all the options, so to speak :)

BTW, I was just looking over some behind-the-scenes photos from when I shot with Ketch on M8 back in February. It brings back all those feelings I had when I first got my hands on this camera. I was so stoked!

As far as I know, the HDMI output is not working on the Epic.

Hi Tom,

On the DP6, try turning the Image Flip function on and turn the monitor upside down. I had the same horizontal breakup on my monitor and this is what support suggested doing...and it worked. Seems the monitor doesn't 100% like the true progressive signal (happens on Alexa set to 'p' output as well), but for some reason flipping the image fixes it. One good byproduct of this is I like having the HDSDI ports at the bottom of the display.

Just got the new Canon 2X and put it on the new 70-200 2.8 IS II. As soon as I get some decent light around here, I will shoot some tests and post 5K grabs.
