  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Tom Lowe...

Naw. I'm never going below 4.8K 16:9 again.

Always thot when they said 5K @ 120fps it didn't mean any less on the res but fair enough! Now I understand

so you're doing 4.8k 16:9 at 96, and to go any frame rate above that you're down to 4.5k correct?
Is 4.5k 16:9 120fps available on camera now?

Only three 5K settings are available on camera now. I believe my top framerate for 16:9 will be at 4800 x 2700. I will never shoot resolution than this, ever again. I've seen the light. :w00t:

Thank you for sharing Tom, The was the longest most beautiful piece of Epic footage i've see thus far

Tom -

As always, incredibly beautiful footage! Thank you for taking the time to shoot, edit, answer questions, and post that up for us.

This gives a whole new meaning to "birds on the wing." Looks stunning on an Apple Cine display!

Thanks for posting this, Tom. It looks amazing. Wagner was a good choice. :thumbup1:

With Epic's 1.89:1 sensor, the largest 16:9 area is going to be 4800x2700, as 2700 is the most vertical pixels it can record. I don't know how the firmware sits at the moment, but full 5K (5120x2700) @ 120fps should be enabled soon, if not already.

Jeff, I could be wrong, but I don't think 120fps will ever be available for the full sensor. Jim previously stated that 4800x2700 would max out at 96fps. I assume 5120x2700 would also max out at 96fps.

Another factor that comes into play are compression ratios.

Just projected it from VIMEO on our Optoma HD projector from a Macbook Pro to a 144"Diagonal Screen and HOLY SHIT... even with crappy web compression .. .the water was just sick~!~ the detail in the bird against the sun, detail in the (what should be blown) highlights and at 96FFPS?? (thats fucking FPS) who needs 120?

Big Kudos Tom, I LOVE your day job!

Yeah, I could be wrong too... And you currently own one and I don't. ;)

Yep. But at least we have options of compression ratios to accommodate the speeds of the media. As fast as the new SSD modules seem to be, it's already been mentioned that they're still not quite fast enough for everything at the lowest compression ratios.

5K 2.4:1 is 120fps. All other 5K formats are 96fps.

Jim
