  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Tom Lowe...

The detail is stunning, but when you see 96fps COMBINED with this level of detail and image quality, that's when you realize you are looking at something new and different. 96fps is poetry in motion.[/QUOTE]

Before it happens to both our posts, just wanted to say...:smilielol5::smilielol5::smilielol5::smilielol5:
Also want to say congratulations to Tom and great images.

I do have to say that Red is probably very excited Tom has this camera also because as has been stated before time lapse functions/long exposures are not yet enabled so who could be a better candidate to send beta software to for analysis as those features progress.

Congratulations Tom! I'm very anxious to get your impressions of the camera in the landscape work you do so well. Especially to see you develop a sense of how to get the most out of the increased dynamic range -- where and how HDrx is best used in the natural world, and more. Your feedback here will be such a great compliment to the Mark, Steve, Ketch and the others. Here's to doing great things!

Hi Tom

Great to hear your thoughts on Epic.

I'm interested on your feedback also on the Duclos lens - are you using the new 80-200mm Nikon that Duclos are working on or is this an older model Duclos lens?

Best wishes

Scott

Seriously, I was impressed that the Duclos 80-200 PL lens was so sharp. I've been using it to shoot mainly 3K fps on MX, so I was pleasantly surprised to see how sharp it was at 5.1K. I bought this Duclos 80-200 from Matt about one year ago. It's not a rehousing. He just declicked the iris, added a PL mount and gear rings.

Tom, congrats on the awesome new toy, and great pic!

In looking at the camera, I see the top handle right over the exhaust vent. How hot is that exhaust, venting from the camera?

I'd imagine that it can't be all that bad, but figured I's ask anyhow.

Matt

I think I'm missing some kind of riser for that handle. Ketch had something to raise the handle up a bit. I think it's going to be about a week before I can get my hands on a DSMC top handle.

Also, if you use a setup like the ET Hybrid rail system (mine is 19mm), you need to order an adapter for the bottom of the camera. The Epic has two 3/8" taps, but they are only 25mm apart. ET has the adapters in stock now. Mine arrives today.

With all the amazing projects currently being shot on Epic, I think I'm most excited to see what comes from your camera, Tom. You've got the eye, the know-how, and of course, now the firepower to match.

I know you're sticking with PL at the moment, but once Nikon and Canon mounts are available, would you mind giving us an idea of what kind of lenses you'll be reaching for regularly?

Very best,
Clint

I'm super eager to get an EF mount. First Canon lens I am reaching for is the new 70-200mm 2.8 IS II, easily the sharpest lens in my bag, by a country mile. It will also be fun to try the 14mm 2.8 II, 16-35 II, 24mm 1.4II and 85 1.2.

There is so much detail on these shots (which, BTW, proved to me that the Duclos 80-200 is very worthy of 5K), I could actually see these birds taking a crap in mid air.. and shaking the water off themselves. Details I have never seen in any of my footage before. Not even close.

Could not have said it better myself...poetry in motion. Is this the Duclos PL zoom your using? I would love some feedback on your experienced with that glass...need to outfit a kit for the playa. ;)

Can't wait to see what you come away with...

Next question: how long before you pay a visit to Terry and show him your new toy? Let me know if you need an escort!

Jim- Thanks for all the strides you all are taking to get these cameras out the door and in the right hands. So excited to see the Epic program progressing...

Congrats Tom!

That is in fact an older 80-200mm mount conversion. There are only about 5 of those in the world and Tom has one of them. Not the same as the re-housed 70-200mm we are working on right now. If you think the older 80-200mm is sharp.... Just wait. Tom will be one of the first to get his hands on our new project.

Tom,

email me or text me your address, I'll ship you out both the raiser for the Top Handle as well as the ET Bottom Plate Riser
for the EPIC so you can mount it on to the Hybrid Bridge Plate.

I'm way too happy with the new RED toys to use anything else ;)
