"Check out this feature article in American Cinematographer about the documentary Tim's Vermeer. I was the DP for the material they shot in the Netherlands and we used my Red One 1265 in Amsterdam, Den Haag and Delft where Vermeer lived. Tim, Penn and Teller loved the image of the Red One so much that they decided to shoot the rest of the documentary on Red cameras. Tim's Vermeer, a Penn and Teller film made the Oscar short list and was nominated for a BAFTA award. Read the article and go see the film. You will love to see Tim's 5 year journey of research and discover how a world-famous painter Johannes Vermeer may have made his beautiful paintings. Have fun !!

Was it Red One M or MX?

Robert, very nice work on the movie. The Netherlands footage was great and really added to the film. I took over where you left off and shot the remaining 4-5 years on redone and epic. There's also a lot of 5d in there that Tim shot himself and some not so pretty footage from a consumer cam when they went to England (without a DP). The film has been doing extremely well at the festivals and is being released in the US by Sony Pictures Classics.
here's a link to the trailer.

Really looking forward to seeing this. Congrats guys. Read article in American Cinematographer. So great to see both your names in print! Congrats again.

Hi Eric, it was Red One M, what later i upgraded to MX. They also shot on the Epic-X.

Ive been looking forward to this one, heard great things.

I love this film. I like the contrast in how the photography starts with beautifully open shots at Vermeer locations and almost has a narrowing of field of view as he goes down his personal journey and focuses in all that small mirror/painting for months. This is out on iTunes now, film is a huge inspiration for me.

It's an excellent movie. I thoroughly enjoyed it.

I saw something about this film on TV early last year and immediately got a copy.
Absolutely fascinating story.
So was Vermeer an artist proper, or a very very clever visionary?
He certainly knew how to frame and light!

Great job Robert.

I think Vermeer was an artist and a visionary. Art is not so much in the method of creation, in which tools or techniques were or were not used, but in the emotional and aesthetic appeal to the viewer stemming from the creative intent of the artist. If Vermeer used the same or similar tools as Tim did actually increases the creativity in my mind, and in to me Tim's result was most definitely art.
