  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Timecode cable

Gotham sound in NYC makes em. I got one for my epic for the 744/788 series recorder since its the most common lemo to lemo for sound.

Do not mean to derail but if I want to sync an epic with another epic. Why is it not possible to feed video from one into the yellow connector of the other ones sync cable and hit a "jam button"...

I tried this the other day and did not manage to get it to work, should it work or no? if so why not? :)

The Epic Brain Timecode is INPUT only. If you want TC OUTPUT you need the Pro I/O. TC Cables are typically unidirectional.

I think the only way without the Pro I/O is two separate synched Lockit Boxes with TC & Trilevel Sync Genlock.

You should instead use two timecode jam boxes, one feeding each Epic. Jam the timecode box (Denecke SB-T or Ambient Lockit) to the sound recorder on set, then take each box and tie them down on the cameras. Problem solved. Even if the camera is turned off or rebooted, the moment it comes back up and gets fed proper timecode, you'll be back in business.

If you're using two or more cameras, be sure to use Genlock mode for common sync in addition to timecode, which will make sure the leading edge of each frame is in the right place relative to each other. This is imperative for 3D as well.

I would recommend Wilcox Sound in Sun Valley and Audio Department in Burbank for making excellent, reliable, inexpensive timecode cables for Red and other cameras:
