  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

TIME AND DATE ISSUE...really?

So why you are sending the camera in? They didn't ask me to send in once we see that it charges...the issue at this stage is to understand why periferarls are draining energy from the battery...from what you say the brain is ok!

No evidence on battery drain from the peripherals. This would need further evaluation, it´s been just two days, not months that have to be covered. Pretty sure the battery would have kept the clock running for two days with attached modules. I agree this situation to hear of not improving the issue after getting the camera back from service is not satisfying.

Obviously, doesn't work with DSMC1 since, I presume, that battery is not rechargeable...

Still had to have an internal battery to be able to hold timecode, time and date settings when powered off. Red cameras has always been bad at holding timecode data throughout a day of shooting and when powered off. Working with Arri cameras you sync timecode once and they pretty much hold it throughout the day, maybe drifting a frame between days. However, Red drifts 15 minutes, two hours, a day... I had one Epic-MX camera once who drifted two years between days.

Still, I've had better result with my Epic Dragon when it comes to holding on to date/timecode settings than on my Weapon. It could rest for weeks and still not loose anything. My Weapon can't hold it after a week tops.

Christoffer, I was wondering if leaving the touch connected when switched off the camera has any impact on battery drain as others have stated above. I never did this with my DSMC1 but in fact left it connected when working with the Epic-W. So out of curiosity do you strip your camera down when not in use? Thanks for a short reply. Cheers, Ulf

So is this official, we have a rechargeable battery that last 2days... A clock battery that holds a 2day charge, tell me it ain't so

i have my Epic-W from december last year and kept evf,Lcd, v-lock adapter on it and was for 2 weeks on a holiday and no issues with the inside battery when i came bach, everything was stil in/on time.

OK, our Epic-W is at RED HQ being evaluated and sent to the engineering ream as of now. I received email from the RED Tech-Support this morning. Thank you ladies & gentlemen @ RED. Hopefully, they might find a resolution that'll benefit many of us. I have good amount of faith on RED products. This probably is just another hiccup.

So what they said it is?

Hi Luca,

I'm still waiting for RED Tech team's analysis. Quote: "The tech-support team was able to duplicate issues I was experiencing" camera was sent to RED Engineering for an in depth look.

I will post the outcome when we receive the camera.

Thanks Neil. I will be back home the 25th and test the camera after 10 days. They said to me that the camera need to be in working conditions so that the internal battery will charge...

OK. We picked up the camera this afternoon. RED replaced the camera. I have to test this one. It is too early to write anything about this device.

Lol it will mean we ALL need to replace our cameras then !

Not necessarily. Out of thousands of Epic-W cameras, only a few may have issues. As you know, RED products are solid and build very well. We needed the camera for a shoot that is scheduled for this Tuesday. So, RED might have gone above and beyond their norm and given a replacement saving us the wait till they go through extensive testing of our camera.

Like I stated in the past, RED Tech-support is the best in the industry. They would go out of the way to service their products and keep customers happy. That is why they have such a loyal customer base.
