Hi guys I own from just a year the Red Epic W and it works great. Yesterday I sent the log file for a ticket to check a chromatic aberration issue (all solved) but they discover that the internal battery doesn't keep the charge and sometimes the date and time it get resetted to 2010 lol...
The strange things is that the same thing happen to another guy in italy and we are winderign if becoause we have not been using the camera for about two weeks?
They ask me to send the camera back to replace the battery, Im still in warranty but you think is worth it? Looks like other people with their Scarlet W had the same problem and once they got back the problem was still there ! Is it maybe a firmware bug? How a brand new camera of 30,000€ has a crap battery inside?? Lol
What is your experience?
Thanks a lot
Luca

Thanks David...but still looks absurd on how a brand new camera has an internal battery alteady dead?

At the very least this thread should be a heads up to RED to look at the problem or at their battery supplier.

That battery is buried deep in the camera and it is not possible for the user to do this task. Was like this in DSMC 1 as well.

Wish it was easier.

+1 behind the sidekick would be great for DSMC3.

Yes but some people paid 650$ to change it!!!! Glad im still in warranty but it should last at least 5 years not 12 months!!

Scarlet W as well, still need to send it in.... Hoping it is a software issue??? The date and time sticks if you use the camera every 1.5 to 2 days, longer than that and it resets... On DSMC1 once that battery died you could never reset the clock.

Same problem with my Weapon 8k.
Sending it in for a second time within the last month or so.
New camera with not many hours.

Have same issue on my weapon. Unfortunately was too lazy to send it in early while I was still under warranty but honestly doesn't bother me much which is why I never sent it in. I just set a soft key to go to the date/time page and change it up when I start up the camera after it's been off a long time.

Same with mine here. Very odd. I thought it was just mine.

Every time one of these threads comes up, I say the same thing: I know it's anecdotal, but I've personally witnessed the same issue with 60% of every DSMC1 camera I've ever used (and judging by this thread, the trend may continue with DSMC2)... Actually, the only people I know who *I think* have avoided it are the ones that did every sensor/camera upgrade so their brain was essentially swapped out every ~18-24mths or so...

It's actually crazy that they didn't fix this when moving from DSMC1 to DSMC2. For anyone outside the states, with labour, shipping, and conversion, it's ~$300+ for what is otherwise a $1 battery swap... Curious to know how many Arris/Canons/Pannys/Sonys/etc do this? (3-5%?)

Same issue here. Our Epic-W not even 8 months old, has a failed junk piece of a shit cheap ass internal battery. So much for spending over 30k for a state-of-the-art camera. If the camera is not powered up for a couple of days, we have to remove pretty much every module including the monitor and reconnect ONLY the IO Expander to get it to work. Then again, we have to push the power button a dozen of times to power up. And we baby this camera!

Worst of all, we volunteered to bring in the brain to RED Irvine HQ and no answer to that email. This is total BS!

My SUUNTO Dive watch/dive computer came with a 5 year battery. Someone at RED trying to cut costs by buying cheap parts???

I hope they would not charge any money to replace the battery.

I've been so busy with my current project I haven't had much time to shoot or even turn on my camera for that matter. I have a Weapon Helium and I have about another 2.5 moths on my 12 month warranty. Is it just that when you record something you can see the timestamp/date are wrong on the card? Is there a way to see if it's correct when you turn on the camera without shooting?

When you turn it on, your timecode in the corner of the display will be 00:00:00:24 or whatever seconds takes to boot up (presuming it's not midnight). Either that or you can go check the date/time and see that it's Jan. 2010 or whatever it defaults to.

My Raven does the same but found a quick fix. I bought the foolcontrol app and i sync time/date with a simple click everytime i fire up the camera. Voila :)
This is the FN fix! RED supply me fool control time clock mod for the win

Neil but this looks like a different issue to me? You should check!
