Hi All I hope I'm in the right area for this post but anyway,

I'm a big Fan of Tilta products but I'm a little concerned lately on the wood thats used in there grips I know that Brazilian Rosewood is used which is Illegal to the best of my knowledge or maybe I'm wrong.

does anyone out there know if this is legally sourced wood anyone from Tlta out there?

I'd rather have a metal grip or plastic if I knew I was making a difference and helping this planet

All the best

Using wood is better for the planet than using metal or plastic.

no its the real stuff:laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh:

I'm about 99% sure that isn't actual Brazillian rosewood, which should be really expensive and hard to get due to restrictions. The Chinese have renamed a bunch of similar woods to things like Mahogany, Rose wood, and teak. Don't buy wood from China ;-)

True plastic is a major issue and wood yes can be better if it comes from a sustainable forest but not from a tree that takes 100s of years to grow and doen't kill off a raft of species so we can have our cool hand grips, I'm sure there might be a few wild life shooters out there that dont realise their hand grip help to the deforestation. make the things out of stained pine wood trees from a sustained forest or bamoo that stuff grows a mile a minute I'm sure if you polish that stuff right up it i'll look really COOL hell why not make the whole rig out of it, I dont know just dont kill a rainforest for it :mad2::mad2::laugh:

thats what I thought that grip should be very expensive if it was Rosewood, thats true they could have done that.

I would bet if it is actually rosewood, it's probably from Madagascar or India. Those are not restricted.

like Aaron i'm lucky enough to own a few braz guitars, some older, some newer, the color can vary widely, from the orangey seen here to almost purple with black stripeing

but yea if it's on CITES list like Dalgibera is, then you'd be mad to cross any border with it, but it may be a rosewood, and from brasil, but not Dalgibera, and not restricted

one way to tell is to scratch/sand a bit where it can't be seen, if it's real braz it will smell like roses....

i'd go for a sustainable wood like cherry or osage orange anyway, leave the fragile resources that still exist for the next genertion

See...Aaron...I could go through the timeline and parameters of design...but I'm not going to.
