  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Thoughts and Tips responses here...

Great job! The new tools are f* amazing! I was wondering, XML import, please...por favor....s'il vous plaît..... , a xml import in redcine-x will be a total game changer.

Thanks for the hard work, the effort was worth it.

Am I the only one with a problem ... the app runs, but once I stick an R3D file on the time line it runs WAYYYYYYYYY slow. It seems to recognise the fact that a REDROCKET is installed, but it's soooooo slow to use (as it renders in background ... once the orange 'progress line' is complete, it returns back to being usable (until some property changes forcing a re-render)).

Managed to get some output from it and it's very nice.

Anybody else experiencing this and figured a way round ??? would like to hear back ASAP ! ... as the output quality 'and control' provided is very nice, now.

It's like a new RED1 has arrived (once again).

I have run footage from build 15 to build 21 through the new REDCINE and they all worked like a dream! I don't have a RedRocket and the software runs as fast as it used to. I have the old OSX (10.5.8).

Honestly, i still can't believe how improved the color is with the new REDCOLOR and how easy it is to manipulate the footage with the FLUTcontrol! I even believe that the Lift control is rendered obsolete (!).

What I would love to see...

More metadata, including shutter speed (not just angle), over-cranked frame rate (not just timebase) and most of all... XML import and export!

Via MacBookPro it's fine ... (aside from render times) ... usability is fine; ie: user interface is fine.
Its on the MacPro tower (with REDROCKET) that I seem to have a user interface that runs sloooooooow (render times are fine once the user interface catches up).

Anyboy else with a REDROCKET experiencing the same ?

I tried one a few months ago and it would totally mess up RedCine-X - it played normally for about a third of the time, and then all the video and the histogram would just go grey and the only way I could fix it was to restart the program. I assumed it had become corrupted when I downloaded it but maybe the files are actually broken...

AH I experienced the same. Did redcine x crash alot also? Hope its was just something wrong with those clips!

re: Red Dailies.

I'd like to be able to burn in a company logo with selectable transparency and location
right over the footage.
Thanks.

anybody else noticed how jim just slipped in the mention of 64gb CF cards?

edit: ahh I see the other thread

Thanks! & Documentation-

Thanks! & Documentation-

I appreciate the new thread and the tips / best practices. It is VERY helpful to have them located in one ease to read location. :)

I realize that the version of RedCine-X is in alpha, but I was wondering if there will be any documentation that will come along with it? As I have the following questions ...

What exactly is the FLUT control, and how should I be applying it?

The goal posts that are mentioned- where are they located in RedCine-X? Or are they only on the camera?

Deanan slipped a little something into this RC-X build for you Tangent Panel owners as well :)

Oooh... I was on the fence about buying one of those. Now I may just have to do it. My wallet curses you.

wow...just WOW...the amount of data that I was able to recover from a crappy underexposed shot was amazing...a whole new camera all over again...

looking forward to trying this at work...and seeing what i can drag out of a good shot! with Wave integration, very exciting!

one note - the icon for the white balance seems to be backwards/reversed/...not sure how to say this...

shouldn't it go from left to right, blue to red, cooler to warmer...it currently goes from red to blue, with the numbers are ascending (warmer) towards the blue (cooler) when you move the slider.

not sure if I'm being clear.

very slow on my macbook pro, but I'm sure it will be optimized and hoping it works fast with the Rocket.

In regards to Red4k (That brand name is horribly confusing BTW) how are you cramming the audio into 15mbps? DTS-HD allows for up to 20mbps by itself doesn't it? I hope the Red4k standard allows for nearly uncompressed 7+ channel audio.

Played 5 minutes with the very new color science.

ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFULL!!!! Congrats Graeme !!!

Deanan,

Very nice intuitive workspace.

How on earth can i delete the clips in the bin ?????

When i drag them out, they copy themselves on the desktop... :)

The XML would be so nice :)

Very nice. I like what you guys did with highlight compression in new RC-X.

I hope there will be a "save workspace" option in the future and saving "auto load workspace" in the preferences, as well as more window scaling ability, for better arrangement options.
Support for Euphonix MC Color is also welcome.

Nice avatar, but I liked the previous better. :)

Wow. I've played around with redcine-x with only a few shots, but this is just amazing. Really amazing. We had a fantastic shot that was properly exposed, but with noisy details that we don't want to crush completely. We figured that would only be possible to solve in the secondary grades in Color. But we were constantly fighting noise in some parts of the shot. Now the shot looks just great after one round, and what happened to all the noise?!

I also really like the automatic playback of the thumbnails. Every piece of editing software should have that.

Working on our first film, and to me this is day and night difference. I don't respond to every new screw that RED announces, but nice work guys. If I say holy, you say ....

Thanks.

We are doing this right now. After we output our rushes using RED Rocket, the footage is loaded into FCP, and played out to a DVD recorder via SDI from the Kona3, it allows real time placement of water marks right over footage.

cheers
Colin
